PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ivar Pederson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Juul Hupperts (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ivar Pederson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Juul Hupperts!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Don Winkell and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Hupperts closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Pederson's guard.
Hupperts passes into half guard.
Pederson is trying to stand.
Pederson is trying to maintain the position but Hupperts is very close to passing his half guard.
Hupperts trying to control the pace.
Pederson is trying to stand back up but Hupperts is controlling him
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hupperts throwing shots but Pederson is blocking nicely.
Pederson is trying to stand up here but Hupperts is controlling him well.
Hupperts sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Pederson defending well though.
Hupperts is taking a breather. Pederson says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Hupperts shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Hupperts seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Pederson controls Hupperts momentarily but Hupperts frees himself.

Pederson wants to stand up but Hupperts is controlling him.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Pederson lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Hupperts circles away quickly and effectively.
Pederson moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Pederson is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Pederson is looking to clinch but Hupperts is avoiding it.
Pederson swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Pederson throws a nice looking combination but Hupperts bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Hupperts dives in for a single leg takedown but Pederson sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Hupperts ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Hupperts no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

This has been an exciting period of action!

Pederson wants to control from the top but Hupperts keeps moving.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Hupperts slips a jab and a cross from Pederson.
Pederson moves in looking to clinch but Hupperts pushes him off.
Pederson scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Hupperts shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Pederson pinned against the cage. Pederson gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Hupperts drives through with a takedown into Pederson's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Hupperts with a flurry of punches that miss.
Pederson knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Hupperts on the ground.

Hupperts remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Pederson is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Hupperts has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Hupperts has knee on belly and moves into mount.

Pederson tries to reverse the position but Hupperts maintains control.

Hupperts lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Hupperts looking to finish Pederson with some ground and pound. This is bad for Pederson!
Hupperts is landing with some decent strikes but Pederson is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Hupperts cracks Pederson with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Hupperts looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

Pederson wants to hold on but Hupperts pushes him away.
Pederson is wriggling around trying to escape.

Pederson wants to hold on but Hupperts pushes him away.
Oh Pederson is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Hupperts tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Pederson seems to have got his legs back now.

Hupperts lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Juul Hupperts showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Hupperts misses with a takedown
and Pederson counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
No joy there for Pederson, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Hupperts shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Pederson but Pederson pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Pederson uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Hupperts.

Ivar Pederson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Juul Hupperts.

Hupperts is looking to advance position but Pederson won't allow it.
Hupperts looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Pederson with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Juul Hupperts is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Pederson is defending against the submission attempts here by Hupperts.
Hupperts thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Pederson's head.

Hupperts is continuing to stall.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Hupperts working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Hupperts looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Pederson tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Hupperts manages to move to mount!

And that's the end of the fight!
Juul Hupperts comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Hupperts winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
