Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Brandon Luff!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Nikolai Gogol!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Luff drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Gogol parries the strikes from Luff easily there. Luff is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Gogol to escape.
Luff in side control, throwing shots but Gogol defends.
Gogol tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Luff wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Luff grinds an elbow into Gogol's temple.
Luff knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Gogol on the ground.
Luff cracks Gogol with a big elbow.
Gogol avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Luff.
Luff working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Luff in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Luff grinds an elbow into Gogol's temple.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Gogol tries to buck Luff off but Luff is having none of it.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Gogol is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Luff works his way into full mount!
Gogol is trying to escape the mount.
Luff is landing with some decent strikes but Gogol is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Luff with a couple of short strikes.
Gogol is desperately trying to improve his position but Luff has a good base and remains in mount.
Luff landing shots from mount.
Gogol is rocked!
Luff lands a nice shot to the head.
Gogol is still in real trouble! Can Luff finish him?
Oooooh, big shot lands for Luff! Gogol is hurt baaadly! Luff is firing away with more strikes - Gogol is covering up... the ref is warning him to do something. He's just covering up though still and the ref has to step in to end the fight! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:18 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Brandon Luff!
