And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mario Marena!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Joseph Jones and Jorge Garcia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Marena lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.


It looks like Benito Oneil has been cut.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Oneil is trying to break free.
Oneil wants to get back to striking at distance but Marena won't allow it.
Oneil looking for a takedown.
Marena fails to pull guard.
Oneil can't break the clinch.
Marena utilising his Muay Thai to score with a knee to the body.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Marena tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Oneil smiles and moves away.
Oneil thuds a left hand into Marena's body.

Marena is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Oneil's half guard.

Marena is stalling here. Oneil is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Marena seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Oneil has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Marena is looking for the choke from the back position but Oneil is controlling his hands well.

I really don't envy Oneil right now.

Oneil stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Oneil wants it to stay on the feet.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Marena misses with a left hand

and Oneil holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Marena keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Oneil's efforts to push away.
Oneil wants a takedown but no success here.

Oneil pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Oneil tries to clinch up but Marena circles away and keeps his distance.
Marena shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Oneil but Oneil pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Oneil moves into range and connects with a jab.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Oneil circles away from the clinch attempt.
Oneil tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Marena paws at him with a jab and circles away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Marena fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Marena throws a sloppy head kick and Oneil moves out of range easily.
Marena moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.

Oneil drives through and clinches with Marena against the cage.
Oneil is trying to break the clinch but Marena is controlling him.

Marena jumps into guard, dragging Oneil to the mat.
Marena wants to control but Oneil passes easily into half guard.

Oneil is looking for a kimura but Marena is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Oneil to get the leverage.
Marena takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Oneil postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Marena to stand up.

Oneil tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Marena shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Oneil sprawls well. Oneil wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Marena gets slowly back to his feet.
Oneil lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.

Oneil connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
The fight stays on the outside here - Marena looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Marena tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Oneil just stands there and leans against the cage.

Oneil lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.
Marena keeps Oneil at a distance using the push kick.
Benito Oneil is winning the standup battle so far.
Marena tries to clinch up but Oneil circles away and keeps his distance.

Oneil closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Oneil jumps guard and drags Marena to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Marena wants to control from the top but Oneil keeps moving.
Marena is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Marena drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Oneil manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Marena has Oneil in his guard.

Well Oneil has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
