PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Furious George (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Frank Gibiatti (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). George comes to the cage accompanied by Lamb of God - Descending. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 23 - 13 - 0, fighting out of New York, Furious George!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 6 - 1, fighting out of New York, Frank Gibiatti!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Daniel Franklin and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
George with a lazy takedown attempt
and Gibiatti counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps George thinking.
George works the jab nicely.
Gibiatti tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but George defends well and Gibiatti ends up having to push George into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

George has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Gibiatti is trying to keep an underhook but George manages to get the takedown into half guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

George is taking a breather. Gibiatti says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Gibiatti has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

George shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Gibiatti is trying to defend but George finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
We've been hearing good reports from George's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Furious George will probably get the nod.

George will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

George seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
George's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Frank Gibiatti comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Gibiatti has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
