Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Casey Carwin! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, John Samuelson! The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Samuelson changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Carwin tries to avoid it but Samuelson manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Carwin to the ground. Carwin escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Samuelson wants to clinch. Carwin fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Samuelson manages to avoid it. Samuelson fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Samuelson blocks a jab. A left and a right from Carwin both land. Nice combination. Carwin throws a right and a left that Samuelson avoids nicely. Samuelson fails to land the takedown. Casey Carwin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Samuelson. Samuelson shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Carwin as he avoids it easily. Carwin connects with the punch. John Samuelson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Carwin lands a two punch combo.
Good standup being displayed there by Carwin as he connects with a hook. Samuelson misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
That's one minute gone in the round. Samuelson scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Carwin scores with a few weak punches. Carwin flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Carwin tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land. Carwin regains full guard. Nicely done. Carwin throws some sloppy strikes off his back.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Samuelson has a takedown stuffed. Samuelson changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Carwin tries to avoid it but Samuelson manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Carwin to the ground. Carwin escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Samuelson looks gassed! Carwin keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Carwin connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Samuelson shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Carwin pinned against the cage. Carwin gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Samuelson is looking to clinch but Carwin is avoiding it.
Carwin lunges at Samuelson with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Samuelson's hand. Carwin paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button. Carwin decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Carwin lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. Carwin slips a nice elbow through Samuelson's hands, connecting with Samuelson's forehead. This has been an exciting period of action! Carwin lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Carwin working the head and body with strikes. Carwin looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Carwin frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Carwin putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!
Samuelson is rocked! Carwin connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Samuelson is still in real trouble! Can Carwin finish him? The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Samuelson keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Carwin loads up on a couple of big shots to the head that have Samuelson scrambling to escape. He can't get free though and several more unanswered shots from Carwin land to the head. The referee has no choice but to stop the fight. Carwin stands and salutes the crowd.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:39 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Casey Carwin!
