Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ahmed Day! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rodrigo Rojas! The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Seu Braga and Alexandre Firmino.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Day misses with a takedown and Rojas decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Day's guard. Rojas is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Rojas stopping the sweep attempt from Day. Day keeping moving, preventing Rojas from controlling successfully. Rojas tries to free his leg and advance position but Day is retaining full guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Day controls Rojas momentarily but Rojas frees himself. Day really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
That's one minute gone in the round. Day looking for a sweep. Not yet Day, not yet. Rojas is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Day is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Day has escaped and now he's on top!
Day gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Day clinches up with Rojas and pushes him back against the cage. Day jumps guard but Rojas turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing. Day tries to pull guard but Rojas won't allow it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ahmed Day. That's going to take a lot out of him. Day turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Day manages to end up in side control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Day wants to stand but Rojas has his arm trapped. Rojas sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard. Rojas works his way to full guard. Good work. Day is sitting in close to Rojas's body. Rojas has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Day is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Day is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Rojas.
