Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Gio Avila (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rickey Shakes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Gio Avila!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Rickey Shakes!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Sosuke Kotani and Ren Mimura.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Avila drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Shakes looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Shakes can't keep his opponent in guard - Avila advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Avila is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Shakes defends it well.

Avila is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Avila is trying to work for a kimura but Shakes is defending well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Shakes is defending against the submission attempts here by Avila.

Avila is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Shakes doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Avila.

Avila passes the guard and advances to mount!
Avila will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Avila jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Shakes manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Shakes wings away with a couple of strikes but they don't land.

Avila tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Avila tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Avila has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Avila thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Avila is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Shakes has escaped the position, nice work there.

Avila tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Avila has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Avila wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Shakes, who protects the arm well.

Avila is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Shakes knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Avila is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Shakes has escaped the position, nice work there.

Avila is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Shakes is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Avila goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Shakes rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Avila's guard! Nice work there by Shakes!

Shakes is sitting in close to Avila's body. Avila has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Shakes is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Shakes is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Avila.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:48 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Gio Avila!
An out of breath Gio Avila thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
