Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Johnny Whiteside (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Miguel Ortega (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Miguel Ortega will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 4 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Johnny Whiteside!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Miguel Ortega!
The judges for this bout are Sandra Marshall, Daniel Franklin and David Hoff.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Whiteside dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Ortega shoots for a double leg takedown but Whiteside sprawls well. He's pushed Ortega's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Ortega has a takedown stuffed.

and Whiteside counters with a takedown into side control.
Johnny Whiteside has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Miguel Ortega.
Ortega parries the strikes from Whiteside easily there. Whiteside is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Ortega to escape.
Ortega is looking to regain half guard here but Whiteside keeps moving and retains side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Ortega shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Whiteside shoots for a takedown but Ortega saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Ortega enables Whiteside to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Ortega manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

and Ortega finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.

Whiteside drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Whiteside is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Whiteside throws a strike but Ortega rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Whiteside bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Ortega is not in a great position here, taking some shots.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Whiteside tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Ortega was well out of range. Poor timing from Whiteside.

Ortega tries to score a power double leg takedown but Whiteside sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Ortega somewhat.

Whiteside looks up at the clock and then as Ortega takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Whiteside smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Whiteside is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

Whiteside shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Ortega's guard.

Whiteside throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Ortega was covering up waiting for the punch and Whiteside finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Miguel Ortega has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
I would not like to be Ortega right now.

Well Whiteside has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
