Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Diego Rodriguez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Carl Sheppards!
The judges for this bout are Bart Greer, Michael Johnstone and David Hoff.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No joy there for Sheppards, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Sheppards scores with a jab.
Sheppards stalks Rodriguez and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Rodriguez's face. Rodriguez staggers backwards, shaken.

Rodriguez closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Sheppards's guard.

Sheppards had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Rodriguez defends it easily.
Sheppards looking for a sweep. Not yet Sheppards, not yet.
Sheppards wants to control but Rodriguez passes easily into half guard.
Rodriguez is controlling the pace.
Rodriguez is looking to advance position but Sheppards won't allow it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sheppards is looking for a sweep. Rodriguez is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Sheppards looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Rodriguez takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Sheppards is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Rodriguez pulls his head out easily.
Rodriguez performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Sheppards tries to get to full guard but Rodriguez has control of the leg.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Rodriguez is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Sheppards gets back to full guard.

Rodriguez avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Sheppards bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Rodriguez's guard.

Rodriguez looking to hit a scissor sweep but Sheppards is one step ahead there.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Sheppards drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Rodriguez dives on top into guard.

Rodriguez looking to pass the guard.
Rodriguez is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
We've been informed that Sheppards has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.

Sheppards looking for a triangle here. Rodriguez is fighting it but it looks tight! Sheppards pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Rodriguez is tapping out - this one is all over!
