Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Gideon Jones! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Lionel Lindsay! The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Gregory Folan and Robert Douchet.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jones looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Jones looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Lindsay lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Jones at a distance.
Jones doesn't succeed with the takedown and Lindsay counters with a nice double leg into guard. Lindsay trying to control the position from guard on top but Jones is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Lindsay throws a strike but Jones rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Jones has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Lindsay is proving hard to escape from. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Jones wants to control from the top but Lindsay keeps moving.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jones controls from within his opponent's guard. Lindsay keeping moving, preventing Jones from controlling successfully. Lindsay is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. Jones has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Lindsay is proving hard to escape from.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Jones prevents Lindsay from getting back to his feet.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. Jones pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Lindsay scores with a one two! Jones had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes. Lindsay closes the distance and lands a one-two.
It looks like Gideon Jones has been cut. A big right from Lindsay misses. Jones wants to clinch up but Lindsay keeps it at a distance. Lindsay scores with a takedown into Jones's guard. Jones is looking for a triangle but Lindsay pushes his legs off easily.
Jones seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission. Lindsay postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Jones looking for a guillotine here but Lindsay defends easily.
Lindsay distracts Jones with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Jones is rocked! Lindsay drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Lindsay jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Lindsay trying to control the position from guard on top but Jones is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Lindsay working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Jones trying to keep a closed guard but Lindsay is proving a slippery customer.
Lindsay throws a strike but Jones rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Jones working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Jones looking to pass the guard. Jones looking to sit in guard and control but Lindsay gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Lindsay chips away with some ground and pound. Lindsay throws a strike but Jones rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Jones is pushing down on Lindsay's leg trying to pass to half guard. Lindsay is fighting to maintain full guard but Jones has managed to sneak the leg through. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Lindsay can do anything to dispel that myth. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Lindsay is not content to let Jones control the position. Lindsay has his hands clasped together around Jones's back. He's all about the action. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Lionel Lindsay dominated that round. The cut man is working on Gideon Jones's cut. That's time! Back to the action!
Jones shoots in for a takedown but Lindsay shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Lindsay scores with a spinning back kick! Jones closes the distance looking to clinch so Lindsay counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Jones not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Lindsay stopping the sweep attempt from Jones. Lindsay has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Jones preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jones looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Lindsay passes into side control.
Lindsay landing a few strikes. Lindsay lands a strong strike to the head of Jones. That's dazed him! Lindsay looking to finish here. Jones is waving his arms around trying to block but he's hurt badly - Lindsay lands more strikes and the referee steps in to end the fight!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:40 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Lionel Lindsay! Lionel Lindsay really struggled to get his t-shirt on before his hand was raised. Making sure that REAR NAKED CHOKE NUTRITION logo gets some air time is pretty tricky when you're all sweaty.
