PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jon Trap (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Scott Bessac (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 20 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jon Trap!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Scott Bessac!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Franklyn Lucas and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Bessac gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Trap to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Trap throws a big elbow that misses.
Trap trying to control the position from guard on top but Bessac is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Trap throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Bessac works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Bessac looking to hit a scissor sweep but Trap is one step ahead there.
Bessac is trying to control the position but Trap postures up.
We've been hearing that Trap has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Trap content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

Bessac will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Trap wants to control from the top but Bessac keeps moving.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Trap's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Trap is pushing down on Bessac's leg trying to pass to half guard. Bessac is fighting to maintain full guard but Trap has managed to sneak the leg through.
Bessac is refusing to be controlled, as Trap sits in half guard.
Trap is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Bessac regains full guard. Nicely done.
Trap trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Trap with a flurry of punches that miss.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Trap trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Trap fails with a takedown attempt.
Trap will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Trap tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Bessac defends well and Trap ends up having to push Bessac into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Bessac is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Trap defends well.

Bessac has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Trap can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Trap is working Bessac over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
We've been informed that Bessac has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.

Bessac escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Trap gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Trap slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Bessac wants to clinch up but Trap keeps it at a distance.
Trap closes the distance and clinches up with Bessac, looking for a takedown. Trap pushes Bessac against the cage but Bessac circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Trap tries to score a power double leg takedown but Bessac sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Trap somewhat.
Scott Bessac seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Bessac tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Bessac looks for the body kick but Trap saw that one coming.
Trap takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

Bessac takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Jon Trap overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Trap on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Trap tries to get out of the position.
Bessac is looking to take a break and control but Trap is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Trap is on top in guard.

Bessac is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Trap is aware though and is defending well.
Trap sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Bessac's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Scott Bessac showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Bessac can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Trap is looking to escape.

Bessac has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Bessac takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Bessac is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Trap is surviving well by controlling Bessac's body position as best he can.

Bessac wants to get up but he can't break Trap's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Bessac has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Trap is proving hard to escape from.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Trap is on top in guard.
