PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Tyron Melendez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Raymond Kinsiong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Raymond Kinsiong told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Tyron Melendez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Raymond Kinsiong!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, William Peck and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Melendez tries to close the distance and clinch but Kinsiong swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Kinsiong looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!

Kinsiong gets a double leg takedown into Melendez's guard.
Kinsiong preventing the sweep.
Melendez has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Kinsiong has passed into side control.
Melendez is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Kinsiong asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Melendez really is built like a bowling ball. I wonder if he'd roll if you pushed him down a hill...
Melendez throws a couple of punches but he's in a bad position and they don't land.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Melendez is trying to control Kinsiong's posture but Kinsiong avoids it.

Melendez explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!

Melendez feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Kinsiong scrambles and gets back to his feet.

Melendez moves into range and clinches up with Kinsiong.

Melendez pulls guard effortlessly.
Melendez is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Melendez is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

Melendez has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Kinsiong is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.

Melendez can't get the takedown.

Kinsiong gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Kinsiong prevents Melendez from standing back up.

Melendez makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

Kinsiong closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Melendez to the mat! Melendez manages to get full guard.

Kinsiong shoots in and bounces Melendez off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Melendez wants to sweep but no luck.

Melendez has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Kinsiong is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Melendez wants to clinch up but Kinsiong keeps it at a distance.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Melendez drives through with a takedown into guard.

Melendez decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Kinsiong, up you get!
Melendez tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Kinsiong manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Raymond Kinsiong seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Melendez gets control of Kinsiong's arms and successfully pulls guard. Melendez will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Melendez wants to stand up but Kinsiong is controlling him.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Melendez shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Kinsiong sprawls well. Kinsiong wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Melendez gets slowly back to his feet.

Melendez tries to clinch but Kinsiong is having none of it.
Kinsiong lands a nice looking kick to the body. Melendez takes a step back to recover.

Melendez is looking to stand up but Kinsiong isn't so interested in that idea.

Melendez pulls Kinsiong in close to his closed guard and prevents Kinsiong from doing any damage or advancing position.
Kinsiong trying to control but Melendez is working from the bottom.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Melendez is looking to clinch but Kinsiong is avoiding it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Raymond Kinsiong showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Melendez drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Melendez stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.

Kinsiong's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Kinsiong takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Kinsiong closes the distance and clinches.

Melendez taking a break, stalling in the clinch.
Kinsiong is trying to maintain a safe position but Melendez gets an underhook and turns Kinsiong into the cage.
Melendez is trying to pull guard but Kinsiong turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Melendez has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Kinsiong regains guard immediately.
Kinsiong looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Melendez puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Kinsiong is trying to maintain the position but Melendez is very close to passing his half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kinsiong looks like he's trying to stand up.

Kinsiong is trying to control but Melendez passes into side control!
Kinsiong avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Melendez.
Melendez working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.

Melendez scores with a couple of short elbows.

Melendez is trying to get an arm triangle but Kinsiong is defending well.
Melendez has control of an arm but Kinsiong manages to advance to Melendez's back!
You can see the frustration on Melendez's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.
Kinsiong somehow managing to miss with a strike from the back.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Melendez is trying to get back to his feet but Kinsiong has full control of the position and if anything, Melendez has just worked his way into a worse spot.

Melendez manages to stand up with Kinsiong still on his back. Eventually Kinsiong drops to his feet and we're back in the standing position.

Melendez scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Kinsiong is trying to control but Melendez passes into side control!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Kinsiong throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Melendez.
