Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ahmed Day! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Franklin Sinata! The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Alexandre Firmino and Seu Braga.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Day gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Sinata to score an easy takedown into full guard. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Day not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Sinata looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Day will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Day working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Sinata. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Sinata's corner is telling him to maintain position. Day striking off his back but it's not causing Sinata any problems. Sinata working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Day's head. Sinata looking to pass the guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sinata is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Sinata is in close to Day's body, working some short punches and elbows. Sinata stands up and waves to Day to follow him. Sinata looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Sinata chips away with some ground and pound. Sinata landing with the ground and pound.
Day is rocked!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Day wants to stand and escape but Sinata is having none of it. Oh Day is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Day can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Sinata controls the pace. Sinata is pushing down on Day's leg trying to pass to half guard. Day is fighting to maintain full guard but Sinata has managed to sneak the leg through. Day seems to have got his legs back now. Sinata controlling the action here. Sinata looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. The referee calls for the fighters to work.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Sinata not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Sinata wants to pass to mount but Day is defending the position. Sinata is still trying to improve position. Day tries to roll over but Sinata keeps him under control. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Sinata is pressing down on Day's thigh, looking to free his foot. Day is holding on for now.
That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Day blocking the ground and pound attempt from Sinata. Nice strikes from Sinata there. Day is staying active underneath Sinata, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Sinata is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Sinata content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Sinata not landing any meaningful shots this time.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sinata drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Sinata happy to just control the position for now. Let's hope that Sinata has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. Sinata is looking to take a break and control but Day is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Day tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Sinata wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Day is letting Sinata control him for a moment.
That's one minute gone in the round. Day throws Sinata to one side and escapes! A momentary lapse in concentration from Day enables Sinata to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Day manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Day really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Sinata wants to stand but Day has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Sinata stopping the sweep attempt from Day. Sinata has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Sinata controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Sinata throws a strike but Day rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Sinata manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Day manages to get himself to full guard.

Sinata slips nicely into half guard. Sinata lands strikes from half guard. Day wants to control but Sinata is keeping busy and won't allow it. Sinata is pressing down on Day's thigh, looking to free his foot. Day is holding on for now. Sinata content to control rather than advance. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Sinata decides to return to a standing position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Sinata closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Day quickly recovers to half guard. Sinata is looking for a kimura here.
Sinata winds up and cracks Day with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Sinata slows the pace down in half guard.

Day wants to sweep but Sinata has passed to side control! Sinata working the ground and pound. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Sinata cracks Day with a big elbow. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Franklin Sinata showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!
Day has a takedown stuffed. Sinata dives in and gets a big takedown. He lands in full mount and immediately unloads a series of heavy strikes! Day has had enough and taps out.
