Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between George West (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Koji Kanegi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think West might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Dimitri Vegas & like Mike - Tremor. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, George West! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Koji Kanegi! The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Roger Salmon and Chris Saunders.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kanegi thuds his shin into the meat of West's side. Kanegi misses with a looping left. West jabs Kanegi to the body, keeping him at a distance. Kanegi throws a series of punches but West moves out of range. Kanegi moves out of range of the strikes. Kanegi has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight. West punishes Kanegi's body with a nice straight punch. Kanegi ducks down and throws a hook to the body but West moves away. Kanegi uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by West.

West throws out a powerful jab. Kanegi fails to land the takedown. Kanegi slips under a jab. Kanegi manages to get an easy takedown there - catching West on his heels. He'll look to pass West's guard now, I'm sure. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Kanegi accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Kanegi stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. West swivels though and keeps the full guard. Kanegi is looking to work some ground and pound but West has wrist control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kanegi pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. West is keeping the position for now. Kanegi postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Kanegi throws a strike but West rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Kanegi wants to improve his position but instead West has moved into half guard.
Kanegi is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Kanegi trying to control but West postures up.

Kanegi looking for a sweep. Not yet Kanegi, not yet. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Kanegi looking to control.
West has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Kanegi looking to hit a scissor sweep but West is one step ahead there. Kanegi bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in West's guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kanegi working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Kanegi throwing strikes but missing. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Kanegi throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. West utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Kanegi trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Kanegi tries to free his leg and advance position but West is retaining full guard. Kanegi throwing strikes but missing.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. West lands a nice shot to the body.

That's four minutes gone in the round. West scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business. Kanegi on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Kanegi looks to land a left hand but West moved out of range nicely. Wow, both these guys are really going for it! Kanegi lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. West's corner calls for a 1-2. West obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range. West lands a jab to the head.

West takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away. West misses with a hook. Kanegi ducked under it nicely. No joy there for Kanegi, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

West throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Kanegi. Kanegi scores with a hook to the body. West takes a step back and tries to catch his breath. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that George West will probably get the nod. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

West takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.

West lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. West swings and misses with a hook to the body.

Uppercuts and crosses smash into West's face. West staggers backwards, shaken. Kanegi looks to land a combination. West sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots. Kanegi shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. West manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. Kanegi throws an elbow that misses. West uses the momentum to reverse the position. That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. West is working to avoid the ground and pound but Kanegi connects with a decent elbow. Kanegi landing with strikes to the head and body from side control. And that's the end of the fight! Koji Kanegi comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I think Kanegi has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
