PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Sol Morse (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jason Cain (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Sol Morse!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jason Cain!
The judges for this bout are Reed Andrews, Jorge Garcia and David Schapiro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Morse tries to clinch up.
Cain looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Morse is looking to clinch but Cain is avoiding it.
Morse changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Cain tries to avoid it but Morse manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Cain to the ground. Cain escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Cain lands with a nice combination. Morse backs away looking to recover.

Morse closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Cain to the mat! Cain manages to get full guard.
Morse works over Cain with some ground and pound from guard.
Morse throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Morse wants to stand and escape but instead Cain has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Morse could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

Morse throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Morse is trying to keep Cain in close.
Morse will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Cain won't allow Morse to sweep him here.
My spies in WildBoar's Pig Pen (Strength and Conditioning) $40 inform me that Cain has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Morse blocks a body shot from Cain.
Cain using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Morse has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

Morse keeps control of Cain as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Morse gets control of Cain's arms and successfully pulls guard. Morse will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Morse thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Morse might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Cain wants to control from the top but Morse keeps moving.
Morse manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Cain manages to get himself to full guard.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Cain stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Cain wants it to stay on the feet.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Morse tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Cain defends well and Morse ends up having to push Cain into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sol Morse. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Cain controlling the action here for a moment.
Cain blocks the elbow strike.
Morse drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Morse is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Cain tries to stall but Morse uses the opportunity to gain a better position.

Cain can't find room to land a body shot as Morse controls the action.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

That was a close round but I would say that Sol Morse will probably get the nod.

Morse decides to stand up, so the ref orders Cain to his feet.

Morse throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Morse goes for a takedown attempt but Cain pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Morse is trying to pull guard but Cain has him pressed against the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sol Morse. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Cain stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.

Cain decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Morse, up you get!

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Morse jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Cain walks away with a smile on his face. Morse gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Cain throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Morse blocks it with crossed arms.
Morse is looking for a takedown.
Cain crunches a lovely knee into Morse's ribcage.
Morse tries to pull guard but Cain forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Cain lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Morse or not.

Jason Cain showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!



Morse feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Cain is looking to stand up but Morse isn't so interested in that idea.

Sol Morse overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Cain has momentary wrist control but Morse slips an elbow through the middle.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Morse shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Cain as he avoids it easily.

Morse decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Morse tightens his grip and picks Cain up, before dumping him to the ground. Cain manages to land in guard.
Morse wants to stand and escape but instead Cain has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Sol Morse showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Morse has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
