Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Oliver Stanton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Francisco Vargas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Oliver Stanton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Francisco Vargas!
The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Ivan Kurochkin and Igor Prikhodko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Stanton feints and as Vargas raises his hands in defense, Stanton changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Stanton missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Vargas wants to stand but Stanton is controlling the position.

Stanton drops back looking for a leg! Vargas is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Vargas manages to kick Stanton off! Stanton jumps back into Vargas's guard.
Stanton won't allow Vargas to get back to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Stanton is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Vargas thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Vargas wants to get back to his feet but Stanton passes into half guard.

Stanton stops Vargas from getting back to his feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Stanton not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Stanton takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Stanton is thwarting Vargas's attempts to control the position.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Stanton is looking to clinch.

Stanton gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Vargas to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Vargas decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Stanton tries to clinch up.
Vargas throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Vargas has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Stanton is landing a low percentage of strikes.
Vargas tests Stanton's chin there with a solid looking shot.

Vargas drives through and clinches with Stanton against the cage.
Stanton tries to pull guard but Vargas won't allow it.

Vargas pulls guard effortlessly.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Stanton working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Vargas's head.
Vargas is looking to stand up but Stanton isn't so interested in that idea.
Stanton throws a big elbow that misses.

Stanton working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Stanton has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Vargas manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.

Stanton jumps into guard, dragging Vargas to the mat.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Vargas drops back, looking for a kneebar! Stanton looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Stanton looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Stanton!

Vargas is trying to get back to half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
You can see the frustration on Vargas's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Francisco Vargas dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Vargas looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Stanton trying to control from the bottom.
Vargas thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Stanton's head.
Vargas throwing shots but Stanton is blocking nicely.

Vargas slips a nice elbow through Stanton's hands, connecting with Stanton's forehead.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Vargas postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Stanton to stand up.

Vargas looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Vargas darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Stanton is looking to control Vargas's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Stanton avoid being mounted?
Vargas working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Vargas is stalling here. Stanton is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Vargas seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Stanton has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Stanton has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
A jab from Vargas finds it's way through Stanton's defenses.

Vargas lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Stanton pulls guard effortlessly.
Stanton is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Vargas chips away with some ground and pound.
Stanton utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Vargas wants to control from the top but Stanton keeps moving.
Vargas has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Vargas cracks Stanton with a right hand to the side of the head.
Vargas is looking to clinch but Stanton is avoiding it.
Stanton tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Vargas paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Stanton is rocked!
Francisco Vargas seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Vargas lands a huge takedown. Stanton is out but the ref is slow to react and Vargas lands 3 more undefended punches before the fight is stopped. Brutal finish. Stanton lies on the canvas for a good minute before the doctors bring him round. Good to see he's OK.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:40 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Francisco Vargas!
