Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mickey Franco (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rocco Balboa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rocco Balboa told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mickey Franco! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rocco Balboa! The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Steve Montenegro and David Schapiro.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Franco moves into the clinch. Balboa has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Franco uses from the top position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Franco missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Franco stopping the sweep attempt from Balboa. Franco throws a big right hand that misses. Franco lands a couple of elbows. Balboa not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Balboa is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Franco landing with the ground and pound. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Franco is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

Franco scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Franco slips nicely into half guard, despite the strikes coming from Balboa. Franco thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Balboa's head.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Franco is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. Balboa scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Franco manages to mount him!

That's three minutes gone in the round. Franco unloading with bombs! Franco cracks Balboa with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Franco breaks from Balboa's wrist control and lands an elbow. Franco lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Balboa hang on? Franco landing shots from mount. Franco landing strikes from the mount. Balboa working to try and regain half guard.
Franco postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Balboa looks a forlorn figure.
That's four minutes gone in the round. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Franco prevents Balboa from getting the reversal. Franco blocks Balboa's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom. Balboa tries to hold on but Franco postures up. Franco with good strikes from the mount here! Balboa really trying hard to get back to half guard here.

Mickey Franco dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Balboa doesn't manage to clinch there - Franco circles away.
Franco misses the jab. Rocco Balboa seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. A momentary lapse in concentration from Balboa enables Franco to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Balboa manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Franco stopping the sweep attempt from Balboa. Balboa looking for a guillotine here but Franco defends easily.

That's one minute gone in the round. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Franco makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard. Franco trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Franco is looking to work some ground and pound but Balboa has wrist control. Balboa is trying to keep Franco in close.

That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Franco postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Franco works over Balboa with some ground and pound from guard. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Franco accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Franco is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Balboa can do to turn this around? Franco got a little sloppy there for a moment and Balboa has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Franco has managed to get both his arms back between Balboa's legs - danger averted.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. Balboa closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Balboa is breathing heavily. Franco wants to get back to his feet but Balboa drags him back down. Franco is trying to control Balboa's posture but Balboa avoids it. Balboa wants to stand but Franco is controlling his arm.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Franco is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Balboa off and has taken his back! Franco controlling well, preventing Balboa from escaping the position.
Oooh a big shot gets through from Franco. Many more shots like that and the referee will have to think about stepping in!
Balboa is trying to get back to his feet but Franco has full control of the position and if anything, Balboa has just worked his way into a worse spot. Franco is throwing punches to the body, looking to soften Balboa up.
Franco lands a punch that was close to the back of the head but the ref thinks it's OK. Balboa tries to escape but Franco has the hooks in and won't let him break free. Franco gets his hands free as Balboa looks to control. Franco could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The referee is taking a good look at Balboa as he is on the wrong end of some big shots from Franco!
Balboa defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Franco's arms. Balboa has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it. Balboa wants to escape the position.

Mickey Franco dominated that second round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!
Franco takes the fight into the clinch. Balboa tries to circle away but Franco has him pinned against the cage. Franco can't break the clinch.
A frustrated look appears on Franco's face as he tries to break the clinch. Balboa pulls guard. Franco keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Balboa's head. Balboa avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Franco preventing the sweep. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Balboa wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Franco manages to pass to side control. Balboa is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Franco scores with a couple of nice shots.
That's one minute gone in the round. Franco lands with a punch from half guard. Balboa moves into full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Balboa is striking from the bottom but Franco uses the opportunity to pass into half guard. Franco seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Franco not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Balboa wants to get back to full guard. Balboa is looking to get back to is feet but Franco passes into side control.
Balboa is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Franco is controlling him well. Franco lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Balboa down.

Balboa is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Franco asserts his dominance and retains side control. Balboa takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Franco is putting a hurting on Balboa here, landing some big shots from side control. Balboa is trying to get back to half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Franco looks up at the clock and then as Balboa takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Franco smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Balboa is looking for a sweep. Franco landing with strikes to the head and body from side control. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Balboa regains half guard. Balboa actively working from the bottom here.
And that's the end of the fight! Mickey Franco showed his dominance in that final round. Well Franco has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
