PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Lou Hole (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Paul Jackson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Lou Hole!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Paul Jackson!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, David Hoff and Winston Alpacca.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hole keeps the fight on the outside.

Jackson shoots in and gets a takedown into Hole's guard.
Jackson trying to control the position from guard on top but Hole is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Hole bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Jackson's guard.

Hole passes Jackson's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Jackson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hole. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Jackson is doing well to control the position and prevent Hole from advancing to side control.

Jackson looking for submissions off his back.
Hole throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hole working over Jackson with some ground and pound. Jackson looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Hole drops an elbow to the side of Jackson's head.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Jackson wants to improve his position but Hole is controlling well.
Jackson is pressing down on Hole's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Jackson is on top in guard.


Hole is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Hole is looking to stand up but Jackson isn't so interested in that idea.

Jackson avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hole is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Hole keeping moving, preventing Jackson from controlling successfully.

Hole escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Jackson gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Jackson tries to free his leg and advance position but Hole is retaining full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jackson trying to control but Hole is working from the bottom.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Jackson with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Jackson is looking to stand up but Hole won't let him.
Jackson wants to pass the guard but Hole is keeping the position.

Hole looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Hole keeping moving, preventing Jackson from controlling successfully.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Hole preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Jackson looking to sit in guard and control but Hole gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Hole throws a big elbow that misses.
Hole trying to control the position from guard on top but Jackson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Hole stands and throws Jackson's legs to the side, diving into side control.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Hole working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
Sloppy strikes there by Hole.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lou Hole dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Nice takedown defense from Hole. No joy for Jackson on that attempt.
A slow jab from Hole misses its intended target.
Hole bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Jackson's head.

Hole gets caught napping as Jackson dives in and scores a takedown. Hole manages to retain guard.

Hole looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Jackson passes into side control.
Jackson trying to control the action but Hole is working from the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hole manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hole working over Jackson with some ground and pound. Jackson looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Jackson is trying to get back to full guard.
Hole is nestled in close to Jackson, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Hole is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Lou Hole overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Hole seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Jackson does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Hole is trying to work for a kimura but Jackson is defending well.

Jackson pushes Hole off and gets back to his feet.
Jackson's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Hole connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Jackson scrambles back to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Jackson shoots in looking for a takedown but Hole manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Jackson's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Hole misses the jab.
Hole throws a looping overhand right but Jackson ducks down to avoid it.
Jackson moves in looking to clinch but Hole pushes him off.
Hole looks to land a right hand but Jackson moved out of range.
Hole throws a poor cross that misses

and Jackson moves into the clinch.
Hole is trying to push Jackson away but Jackson has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Jackson jumps guard but Hole turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Lou Hole has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Paul Jackson.
Hole misses with a hook from the clinch.
Jackson goes for a takedown attempt but Hole pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Jackson instigates a clinch.
Hole takes a knee right on the jaw!
Hole tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
A frustrated look appears on Hole's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Jackson breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Hole smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Hole throws a jab when Jackson was well out of range.
Nice takedown defense from Hole. No joy for Jackson on that attempt.
Jackson ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Hole looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Hole misses with a wild body shot.
Jackson doesn't manage to clinch there - Hole circles away.
Hole is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Jackson can do to turn this around?
Hole works Jackson's body with a nice hook.
Jackson takes a body punch but keeps moving.

Jackson has Hole up against the cage in a clinch.
Jackson scores with an uppercut up the middle.
We've been informed that Jackson has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Hole creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Hole lands with a right to the head.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Jackson lands a takedown into guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Hole looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Jackson wants to control from the top but Hole keeps moving.
Hole controls Jackson momentarily but Jackson frees himself.
Jackson slips nicely into half guard.
The fighters are battling for position here. Hole manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Lou Hole will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Hole misses with a looping right.
Hole takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Hole throws the left hand but Jackson avoids the punch easily.
A jab from Hole finds it's way through Jackson's defenses.
Hole looks to land a right hand but Jackson moved out of range.

Jackson shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Jackson looking to improve position, pressing down on Hole's thigh with his hand. Hole seems to be working to lock up a guilotine though... is Jackson paying attention? Apparently not! He's locked it up tight! Jackson's face has turned purple! Will he tap? Will he! YES! He's tapped! Hole picked his opening and made it count! Great finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:43 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Lou Hole!
