Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Steve Cox (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brett Simmons (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Steve Cox has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the bantamweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 0 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Steve Cox!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Brett Simmons!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Roger Salmon and Paul Gruel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cox shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Cox postures up and lands a big shot to Simmons's brow.
Simmons bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Cox's guard.

Simmons trying to control the position from guard on top but Cox is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cox pulls Simmons in close to his closed guard and prevents Simmons from doing any damage or advancing position.
Simmons won't allow Cox to sweep him here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Simmons passes Cox's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Simmons is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

Cox working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Simmons doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Simmons manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Cox misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Cox comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Cox fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Simmons manages to avoid it.
Cox swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

Cox rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Simmons counters with a straight right hand.
Simmons goes for a double leg but Cox avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Cox continues to drive forward.
Cox has Simmons pressed against the cage.
Cox has a couple of punches blocked by Simmons.
Cox prevents a takedown attempt there.
Simmons drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Steve Cox has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Brett Simmons.

Simmons decides to pull guard.
Cox is working Simmons over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Cox trying to control the position from guard on top but Simmons is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Cox is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Cox works over Simmons with some ground and pound from guard.
Cox has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Cox got a little sloppy there for a moment and Simmons has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Cox has managed to get both his arms back between Simmons's legs - danger averted.

We've been hearing that Cox has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.

Simmons is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Cox wants to lay and pray for a moment but Simmons keeps working.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Cox is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Cox connects with a couple of short punches.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Simmons is on top in guard.

Cox is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Simmons avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Cox escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Simmons gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Cox has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Simmons can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Cox throws the left hand but Simmons avoids the punch easily.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Simmons will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Simmons manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Cox manages to get himself to full guard.

Cox pulls Simmons in to control the position.
Simmons pushes down on Cox's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Simmons is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Cox is looking to control Simmons's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Cox avoid being mounted?

Cox is staying active underneath Simmons, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
