Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ivan Volkov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Daniel Berzins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Ivan Volkov!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
18 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Daniel Berzins!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Ryoma Takatsuka and Chris Saunders.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Volkov shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Berzins but Berzins pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Berzins has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Volkov throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Berzins tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Volkov is in Berzins's guard.
Volkov stays in close to Berzins's body and controls the position.
Volkov advances position into side control!
Volkov is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Berzins is trying to escape and Volkov transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Berzins is forced to tap! Nice work there by Volkov! Very nice indeed!
