Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Nathan Cortez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Martin Kampemann (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kampemann is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: pretty enough. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 1 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Nathan Cortez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
11 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Martin Kampemann! The judges for this bout are Radbod Blank, Wagner Zegers and Paul Aken.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kampemann lands with a hook. Cortez tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head. Cortez moves out of range of the strikes. Cortez falls off balance throwing a combination
and Kampemann decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Cortez's guard. Cortez is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Kampemann got a little sloppy there for a moment and Cortez has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Kampemann has managed to get both his arms back between Cortez's legs - danger averted. Kampemann trying to control the position from guard on top but Cortez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Cortez working a defensive guard here.

Kampemann doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Kampemann manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Cortez keeping moving, preventing Kampemann from controlling successfully. Cortez looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Kampemann is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Cortez escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Kampemann gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Cortez is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Kampemann defends well. Kampemann wants to pass the guard but Cortez is keeping the position. Cortez is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Cortez bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Kampemann's guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cortez looking to pass the guard. Cortez sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Kampemann's guard. Cortez is pressing down on Kampemann's thigh, looking to free his foot. Kampemann is holding on for now. Cortez is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Cortez is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Kampemann won't allow Cortez to pass to mount. Cortez is working hard here to advance position. Cortez is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Cortez wants to pass the guard but Kampemann is keeping the position. Cortez passes easily into side control. Nice work. Cortez works to advance to full mount. Kampemann defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs. Cortez is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Kampemann is surviving well by controlling Cortez's body position as best he can. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Cortez is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Kampemann to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Kampemann shrugs it off. Kampemann keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Kampemann fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Cortez sprawls well initially but Kampemann persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Nathan Cortez overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Kampemann is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Cortez has managed to free his arm - good work. Kampemann prevents Cortez from improving his position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Kampemann wants to control from the top but Cortez keeps moving. Cortez controls Kampemann momentarily but Kampemann frees himself. That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Kampemann postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Cortez is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Kampemann, into his guard. Cortez tries to free his leg and advance position but Kampemann is retaining full guard. The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves. Cortez passes Kampemann's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Cortez trying to mount his opponent but Kampemann defends it. Cortez looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Kampemann is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Cortez pulls his head out easily. Kampemann trying to get back to full guard but Cortez takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount! Cortez is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Kampemann can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Cortez is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Kampemann has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Kampemann! Kampemann is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
