Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Gabriel Matias (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Patick ODochaty (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Patick ODochaty! The judges for this bout are Santiago Holmes, Peter Branson and Daniel Franklin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! ODochaty keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Matias shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. ODochaty is trying to defend but Matias finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Matias is trying to control. ODochaty wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. ODochaty is trying to maintain the position but Matias is very close to passing his half guard. ODochaty wants to get back to his feet. Matias is looking for a kimura but ODochaty is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Matias to get the leverage. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Matias moves into full mount! ODochaty won't be happy about that! ODochaty holds on for dear life, controlling Matias's posture momentarily. ODochaty is squirming around, avoiding Matias's attempts to control the action.
That's one minute gone in the round. Matias landing strikes from the mount. Matias prevents ODochaty from getting the reversal. Matias is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. ODochaty can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
ODochaty is desperately trying to improve his position but Matias has a good base and remains in mount. ODochaty wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Matias.
ODochaty wants to hold on but Matias pushes him away.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Matias jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… ODochaty is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by ODochaty and Matias has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
ODochaty tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Matias wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. ODochaty takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
You can see the frustration on ODochaty's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Matias trying to control the position but ODochaty is working away. ODochaty sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. ODochaty is looking for a sweep. Matias is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. ODochaty tries to kick Matias off but Matias keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Matias looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Matias thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. ODochaty blocking the ground and pound attempt from Matias. Matias tries to stand and escape but ODochaty is controlling the position.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Matias shoots in and bounces ODochaty off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Matias trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. ODochaty striking off his back but it's not causing Matias any problems.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Matias loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Matias throwing strikes but missing. Matias passes ODochaty's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Matias is trying to control. ODochaty wants to improve his position but can't escape this time. Matias is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because ODochaty is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. ODochaty is looking for a sweep. Matias is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Matias wants to work for an arm triangle but ODochaty is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

ODochaty scores with a spinning back kick! ODochaty tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Matias manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. ODochaty closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Matias quickly recovers to half guard. ODochaty drops an elbow to the side of Matias's head. Matias manages to get to full guard.
ODochaty tries to free his leg and advance position but Matias is retaining full guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. ODochaty wants to control from the top but Matias keeps moving. My spies in Foot Loves inform me that ODochaty has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends! Matias has his hands on ODochaty's head, controlling the position.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup. Matias wants to sweep but no luck.

That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. ODochaty closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Matias has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. ODochaty avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch. ODochaty throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Matias blocks it with crossed arms. Matias tries for a takedown. No joy.

That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Matias shoots in looking for a takedown but ODochaty manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Matias's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. ODochaty looks to clinch and Matias counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for ODochaty! Gabriel Matias overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. ODochaty struggling a bit here. Matias stands up and we're back to a striking position. ODochaty is looking to clinch. Matias seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym. ODochaty closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Matias to the mat! Matias manages to get full guard. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. ODochaty trying to control the position from guard on top but Matias is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. ODochaty is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

He's persisting with it as ODochaty sprawls well. ODochaty wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Matias gets slowly back to his feet. Matias changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. ODochaty looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Matias is looking to take a break and control but ODochaty is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Matias is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, ODochaty has escaped the position, nice work there. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. ODochaty wants to control but Matias postures up.
