PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Krisn Khan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sammel Nister (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Krisn Khan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Sammel Nister!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Anni Minnemäki and Tarja Halkonen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A decent looking cross lands there for Khan.

Khan has managed to clinch.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Khan tries to land a knee to the head but misses.

I was talking to Khan's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.

Nister has Khan pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Nister pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Khan tumbling to the mat - Nister dives into Khan's guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Nister is in close to Khan's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Nister with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Nister connects with a nice short shot to Khan's temple.

Khan on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Nister content to control rather than advance.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

My spies in Ironfist Athletics inform me that Nister has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Nister is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Khan knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Nister on the ground.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Krisn Khan will probably get the nod.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Nister manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Khan on his heels. He'll look to pass Khan's guard now, I'm sure.

Nister shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Khan as he avoids it easily.
Khan takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Khan is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Sammel Nister showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Nister shoots in but no luck this time.
Nister has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Nister is defended easily by Khan.
Nister tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Khan defends well and Nister ends up having to push Khan into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Krisn Khan has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Sammel Nister.

Khan is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Nister is defending well for now.
Nister drops down looking for an ankle pick but Khan pulls his leg out and moves away.
Nister changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Khan tries to avoid it but Nister manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Khan to the ground. Khan escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Khan lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Khan stalks Nister and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Nister's face. Nister staggers backwards, shaken.
Krisn Khan is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Khan is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Nister works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.

Krisn Khan showed his dominance in that final round.
