Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Unit Eight (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Zalmai Qazi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Qazi's choice of entrance music: "Arab Americans" by Jim Johnston. The fight MMA fans around the world have waited their entire lives for!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Unit Eight!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Zalmai Qazi!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Robert Douchet and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Qazi dives in for a single leg takedown but Eight sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Eight has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Qazi clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!

Eight is working hard for the rear naked choke here.
Qazi looks winded!

Eight is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Qazi knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Qazi for a finish.

Eight seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Qazi for as long as he can get away with.

Eight seems to be going for a rear naked choke. He has an arm under Qazi's chin but Qazi turns very nicely into Eight's guard. Good BJJ skills being displayed there by Qazi.

Eight is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Qazi blocks a low kick nicely.

Eight forces Qazi back against the cage and clinches.
Eight gets underhooks to prevent Qazi's takedown attempt.

Eight pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Eight throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Qazi tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Eight is in Qazi's guard.
Eight advances to half guard.
Eight is taking a breather. Qazi says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Qazi is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Eight scores with a couple of nice shots.
Eight lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Eight with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
It looks like Eight is going to stand back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Zalmai Qazi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Eight decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Eight stops Qazi from getting back to his feet.

Eight is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Qazi has managed to free his arm - good work.
Eight content to control rather than advance.

Eight works his way into full mount!
Eight lands a big elbow.
Eight controlling from mount.

Eight has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Eight is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Qazi can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Eight lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Qazi is in all sorts of trouble here.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!

Eight is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Eight drops an elbow to the side of Qazi's head.

Qazi takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Eight is looking to stand up but he'll have to free his leg first. Instead, Qazi manages to get to full guard.

Eight pushes down on Qazi's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Eight wants to pass the guard but Qazi is defending well.
Qazi on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Eight is pushing down on Qazi's leg trying to pass to half guard. Qazi is fighting to maintain full guard but Eight has managed to sneak the leg through.

Eight is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Qazi has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Eight lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

And that's the end of the fight!
Unit Eight showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Eight has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
