Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Bas Bohn! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Michael Thane! The judges for this bout are Chris Dean, Eliza Hachem and Steve Erwin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Thane sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs. Bohn throws a nice outside leg kick. Bohn lands a head kick. Thane smiles back at him and beckons him forward. Bohn cracks Thane with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd. Michael Thane seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Thane misses with a straight right. Thane gets the takedown into side control. Thane throws a strike aimed at the side of Bohn's head but Bohn avoids it well. Bohn is pushing Thane's head away, looking to escape. Thane manages to hold on to the position though. Thane works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Thane tries to score with some ground and pound. Bohn controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage. The ground and pound from Thane seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent. Thane trying to control the action but Bohn is working from the bottom. Thane is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Bohn will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already. The ground and pound from Thane seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bohn is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Bohn gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Bohn gets back to full guard.
Bohn keeping moving, preventing Thane from controlling successfully. Thane trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Thane is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Bohn has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Thane is looking to defend but Bohn has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Thane! Bohn pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Thane taps out and this one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Bas Bohn!
