PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Ademir Azevado (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Duncan Jon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ademir Azevado!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Duncan Jon!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Ryoma Takatsuka and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Azevado on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Duncan Jon seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Azevado lands with a nice body punch.
Nice body kick there by Azevado.
Azevado takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Azevado lands with a thumping leg kick.
Jon tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Azevado was well out of range. Poor timing from Jon.
No joy there for Jon, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Azevado throws the left hand but Jon avoids the punch easily.
Azevado lands a jab-cross combination.
Jon throws a body shot but no joy.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Jon misses with a right hand

and Azevado counters with a shoot takedown. Jon fights it but they end up in guard.

Azevado drops back, looking for a kneebar! Jon looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Jon looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Jon!

Azevado tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Azevado is trying to control Jon's posture but Jon avoids it.

Jon decides to stand back up. Jon steps back and let's Azevado get back to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Jon fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Azevado closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Jon has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Azevado slips a straight right by Jon.
Azevado scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Jon throws an ugly left hook that misses

and Azevado counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Jon won't allow Azevado to pass to mount.
Jon is trying to stand.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Azevado is looking for a kimura but Jon is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Azevado to get the leverage.
Azevado wants to take a breather but Jon is having none of it.
Jon is trying to stand.
Azevado perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Azevado will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Jon is looking to escape.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Azevado is pressing down on Jon's thigh, looking to free his foot. Jon is holding on for now.

Azevado is working for a submission of some sort.
Jon pushes Azevado off looking to stand but Azevado dives back in and keeps control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Azevado is looking to take a break and control but Jon is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Jon can do anything to dispel that myth.
Azevado frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Jon is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.

Azevado is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Jon to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Jon shrugs it off.

Azevado looking for a guillotine from mount but Jon is having none of it.

Azevado looking to secure an arm triangle but Jon defends it well.
Azevado trying to control but Jon is having none of it.

Azevado working for a guillotine from mount but Jon is in no mood to give up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Azevado wants to finish this one by submission but Jon is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Azevado.
Azevado won't let Jon get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.

Azevado jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Jon is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Jon and Azevado has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Azevado is looking to take a break and control but Jon is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Azevado is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Jon looks calm but he's in trouble here. Azevado gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Jon is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Azevado lets go of the hold and Jon can pop his arm back in it's socket.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Ademir Azevado!
