Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Dave Marshall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Santos Godino (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dave Marshall!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Santos Godino!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Joseph Jones and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Excellent takedown into side control there by Godino.
Marshall parries the strikes from Godino easily there. Godino is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Marshall to escape.
Godino controls the position.
Godino postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Godino throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Marshall works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Marshall moves into full guard.
Godino trying to control the position from guard on top but Marshall is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Marshall wants to sweep here but Godino controlling him for the moment.

Marshall pulls Godino in close to prevent any damage.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Godino looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Marshall bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Marshall working the ground and pound but Godino is defending the strikes.
Marshall will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Godino dodges the ground and pound from Marshall.
Marshall creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Godino sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Godino sneaks back into half guard.
Godino has his hands clasped together around Marshall's back. He's all about the action.

Marshall is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Godino moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Godino is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Godino looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Godino has his hands on Marshall's head, controlling the position.
Marshall wants to control from the top but Godino keeps moving.

Marshall throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Godino works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Marshall fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Marshall shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Marshall sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Godino defending well though.
Godino has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Marshall is working away from the top position though.
Marshall not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Marshall is pressing down on Godino's thigh, looking to free his foot. Godino is holding on for now.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Marshall dives in for a single leg takedown but Godino sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

Godino turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Godino manages to end up in side control.

Marshall takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Godino misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Godino is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Marshall has escaped the position, nice work there.
Godino is trying to ground and pound but Marshall uses the momentary lack of control by Godino to regain half guard.
Santos Godino has got the better of the ground game so far.
Godino throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Marshall to regain full guard.
Godino wants to control from the top but Marshall keeps moving.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Marshall lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Marshall postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Marshall is fighting to break Godino's control of his arms but Godino is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Godino wants to stand up but Marshall is controlling him.
Marshall pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Godino is keeping the position for now.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Marshall dives in and grabs Godino's left leg, looking for a takedown. Godino pushes down on Marshall's head and hops out.
Marshall tries to score a power double leg takedown but Godino sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Marshall somewhat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dave Marshall. That's going to take a lot out of him.

No joy there for Godino, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Marshall looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.

Godino drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Godino lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Marshall down.

Marshall is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Godino tries to move to full mount but Marshall actually manages to regain half guard.
Godino is stalling here. Marshall is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Godino seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Marshall has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
Godino wants to get back to his feet.

Santos Godino showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Godino throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Marshall's waist but Marshall gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Godino off to one side.
Marshall shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Godino manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Marshall on his heels. He'll look to pass Marshall's guard now, I'm sure.

Marshall is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Godino is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Godino is staying active underneath Marshall, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Godino can do anything to dispel that myth.

Marshall seems to be working for a kimura but Godino defends the submission attempt.

You can see the frustration on Godino's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Marshall throws a strike aimed at the side of Godino's head but Godino avoids it well.
Godino is looking for a sweep.

Godino wants to improve his position but Marshall is controlling well.
Marshall throwing shots but Godino is blocking nicely.

Marshall is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Godino defends it well.

Marshall thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Godino is holding on to half guard well.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Marshall.

Godino gets a double leg takedown into Marshall's guard.
Godino wants to control from the top but Marshall keeps moving.
Marshall bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Godino's guard.

Marshall has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Godino is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Godino wants to stand up but Marshall is controlling him.
Marshall won't allow Godino to sweep him here.

Marshall postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Godino is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Marshall, into his guard.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

I would just about give that final round to Santos Godino.
Well Godino has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
