PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Owen Farrell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kid Joe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Joe has chosen (Ugly kid joe) Everything about you as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Owen Farrell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Tokyo, Kid Joe!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Ren Mimura and Hirohito Nitta.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Joe throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Farrell counters with a good, hard body kick but Joe shrugs it off.
Joe ducks under a wild hook from Farrell.
Joe has done a lot of speed work in the buildup to this fight.
Farrell slips a straight right by Joe.
Farrell bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Joe tries to clinch there but Farrell circles away.
Joe lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Farrell at a distance.
Joe takes a swing at Farrell's ribcage but misses.
Farrell misses with a leg kick

and Joe counters with a takedown into side control.
Farrell is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Farrell is working hard here to advance position.
Joe is looking to take a break and control but Farrell is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Joe remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Farrell can't do much from the bottom here.
Joe is looking to take a break and control but Farrell is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Farrell tries to buck Joe off but Joe is having none of it.

Joe takes a little break here. Farrell wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Farrell is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Joe off and has taken his back!

Joe defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Farrell's arms.

Farrell goes for a risky armbar from back mount and it's not paid off. Joe escapes and is now in half guard on top.

Joe is trying to control. Farrell wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Farrell is looking for a sweep. Joe is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Farrell is not content to let Joe control the position.
Farrell throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Farrell is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Farrell is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Joe's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Joe's back!

Farrell has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Joe has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Farrell controlling the position well here. Joe rolled but Farrell kept the hooks locked in and stayed in the dominant position.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Farrell is not going to allow Joe to sit and survive in this position.

A close round but Kid Joe will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Farrell gets tackled into the cage by Joe. Joe maintains the clinch.
Farrell works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.
Farrell is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.

Farrell pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Joe cracks Farrell with a good jab.
Joe throws a nice outside leg kick.
Farrell lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.

Joe shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Farrell is trying to defend but Joe finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Joe looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Farrell with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Farrell is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Joe jumps into side control!

Farrell throws the kick towards the body but Joe avoids it.
Farrell throws a push kick but Joe slaps the foot to one side.
Joe throws a body punch but Farrell moves out of range.

Joe closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Joe lands in his opponent's guard.
Joe is in close to Farrell's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Joe is looking to work some ground and pound but Farrell has wrist control.
Joe must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Farrell drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Farrell jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Kid Joe comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Joe has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
