Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
26 - 20 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Sam Kwaak!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
17 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Franklin James Gatti!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Robert Twigg and Wesley Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gatti fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Kwaak is looking to score with low kicks.
Gatti fails with the takedown
and Kwaak counters with a left and a right that stings Gatti.
Kwaak throws a quick inside leg kick.
Gatti closes this distance looking for a takedown but Kwaak circles away.
Sam Kwaak has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Franklin James Gatti.
Kwaak swings for the body but Gatti moves out of range.
Kwaak circles away from the clinch attempt
enabling Kwaak to counter with a crisp jab.
Kwaak misses with a body kick.
Gatti has a takedown stuffed.
Kwaak looks to score with a jab to the body but Gatti is just out of range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A slapping leg kick lands for Kwaak.
Gatti shoots for a double leg takedown but Kwaak sprawls well. He's pushed Gatti's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Kwaak throws a push kick but Gatti slaps the foot to one side.
Gatti is looking to clinch.

and Kwaak counters with a solid body kick.
Gatti looks winded!

Kwaak connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Gatti takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Kwaak tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Gatti takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Kwaak digs a good body shot into Gatti's ribs.
Kwaak jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Kwaak throws a nice inside leg kick.
Kwaak throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Gatti takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Kwaak misses with a left hand
and Gatti counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Gatti takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Kwaak throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Gatti was covering up waiting for the punch and Kwaak finishes the takedown easily into guard.
We've been hearing that Kwaak has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Kwaak seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Gatti looking for a sweep. Not yet Gatti, not yet.

Kwaak stays in close to Gatti's body and controls the position.
Kwaak pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Gatti is keeping the position for now.
Kwaak controlling from the top position.
Kwaak wants to control from the top but Gatti keeps moving.
Gatti is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Kwaak keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Kwaak is trying to control but can't.
Kwaak is holding on to half guard well.
Kwaak continues to stall.
Kwaak regains full guard. Nicely done.
Kwaak will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Gatti wants to control from the top but Kwaak keeps moving.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Kwaak smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Kwaak lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Kwaak.
Gatti takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Gatti shoots in for a takedown but Kwaak shows good takedown defense.
Gatti gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Kwaak counters with a thumping low kick.
Good leg kick by Kwaak there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Gatti closes the distance but Kwaak moves to the side
and Kwaak counters with a nice body kick.
Kwaak Rushes Gatti and starts throwing punches like they are going out of style! Gatti is up against the cage and has nowhere to go. Kwaak Piles on the pressure and Gatti crumples to the floor! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Sam Kwaak!
In his post fight interview, Sam Kwaak started talking himself up. Luckily his charisma kept the crowd on side and gave him a good reception.
