Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Patches Melone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Wes Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Chris Downing and Gwen Towbar.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Melone fails with an attempt to clinch.
Melone slips a jab from Smith.
Melone throws a series of punches but Smith avoids them all with ease.
Melone gets a takedown into half guard.
Melone wants to take a breather but Smith is having none of it.
The fighters are battling for position here. Smith manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Melone advances to half guard.
Smith is concentrating on defense, preventing Melone from advancing position.
Melone is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Smith doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Melone.

Melone tries to stand and escape but Smith is controlling the position.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Melone throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Smith tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Melone is in Smith's guard.
Melone wants to control from the top but Smith keeps moving.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Melone closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Melone is keen to just control but Smith is a slippery customer.
Melone is stalling here. Smith is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Melone seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Smith has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Smith can do anything to dispel that myth.

Melone wants to lay and pray for a moment but Smith keeps working.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Melone drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Melone trying to control but Smith is working from the bottom.
Smith tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Patches Melone overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Melone drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Smith dives on top into guard.
Smith drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Smith jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Smith is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Melone is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Melone has escaped and now he's on top!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Melone looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Melone shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Smith napping and manages to drive through into side control!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Melone wants to control but Smith is keeping him busy.
Melone decides to stand back up. Melone steps back and let's Smith get back to his feet.

Melone tries to close the distance and clinch but Smith swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Smith shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Smith was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Smith goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Melone has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Smith but great work by Melone.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Smith avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Melone.
