Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Stu Kang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Conor McConnell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Stu Kang!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Conor McConnell!
The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Kenichi Hosakawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kang wants to clinch

and McConnell counters by clinching up.
Kang has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Kang looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!

McConnell manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
McConnell wants to stand but Kang is controlling the position.
McConnell looking to hit a scissor sweep but Kang is one step ahead there.
McConnell throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
McConnell has control of Kang's left arm, preventing Kang from doing any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
McConnell is continuing to stall.

Kang won't allow McConnell to get back to his feet.
McConnell looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

McConnell darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
McConnell is figuring out what he wants to do next.

McConnell not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Kang keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
McConnell sitting and controlling from the half guard.
Kang wants to control but McConnell passes into side.

McConnell working the ground and pound.
McConnell remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
McConnell tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Kang dodges the ground and pound from McConnell.
McConnell tries to advance to mount but Kang denies him.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

McConnell tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
McConnell tries to land a front kick but Kang steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Conor McConnell dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



McConnell has managed to clinch.

McConnell drags the fight down to the ground.
McConnell seems keen to control Kang's posture.
McConnell's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kang looking to sit in guard and control but McConnell gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

McConnell stays in close to Kang's body and controls the position.
McConnell pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Kang is keeping the position for now.
McConnell seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
McConnell must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
McConnell tries to stand but Kang is controlling from the bottom.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

McConnell fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Kang, pushing him back against the cage.
McConnell is looking to break free of the clinch but Kang has double underhooks.
McConnell tries to circle away but Kang has him pinned against the cage.

McConnell jumps guard.
McConnell wants to stand up but Kang is controlling him.
McConnell controlling Kang's posture.
McConnell manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Kang manages to get himself to full guard.

Conor McConnell has got the better of the ground game so far.
Kang being controlled here, momentarily.

Let's hope that McConnell has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

McConnell closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Kang quickly recovers to half guard.

It looks like McConnell is going to stand back up.
McConnell is looking to advance position but Kang won't allow it.
McConnell content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

McConnell wants to pass the guard but Kang is defending well.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

McConnell is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
McConnell slows the pace down in half guard.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

McConnell closes the distance and clinches.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
McConnell is trying to force a seperation but Kang has the dominant position.

McConnell jumps guard.
McConnell wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Kang won't allow McConnell to sweep him here.
McConnell throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
McConnell wants to stand and escape but Kang is having none of it.
McConnell has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

McConnell looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
McConnell looking to hit a scissor sweep but Kang is one step ahead there.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

McConnell closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Kang's guard.
McConnell seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Kang avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Kang has a closed guard, preventing McConnell from standing up.
McConnell stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kang swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Kang can't keep his opponent in guard - McConnell advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

McConnell takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

And that's the end of the fight!
Conor McConnell comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well McConnell has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
