Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Kofi Amankwah! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 6 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Rabihia Nahas! The judges for this bout are Peter Branson, Winston Alpacca and Dirk Anderson.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nahas shoots in for a double leg but Amankwah sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Amankwah shoots in but no luck this time. Excellent takedown into side control there by Nahas. You can see the frustration on Amankwah's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Amankwah is trying to improve his position. Amankwah isn't going anywhere. Nahas really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Amankwah. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Nahas just content to control the position. Amankwah tries to bench press Nahas off him but Nahas keeps the position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's one minute gone in the round. Nahas tries to score with some ground and pound. Amankwah controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage. Nahas tries to move into full mount but can't pass Amankwah's legs. Amankwah definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Amankwah manages to work his way to half guard, despite Nahas's best efforts. Amankwah is pressing down on Nahas's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Nahas's corner is telling him to maintain position. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon. Amankwah escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Nahas gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Amankwah preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Nahas trying to control the position from guard on top but Amankwah is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Nahas must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Amankwah is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Nahas is looking to work some ground and pound but Amankwah has wrist control. Nahas trying to move into half guard but instead Amankwah has managed to sweep! A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Nahas holds on and takes a little breather.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Nahas is continuing to stall. Nahas has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Amankwah can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Nahas trying to control the position here. Nahas wants to sweep here but Amankwah controlling him for the moment.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Nahas moves into range and clinches up with Amankwah. Nahas tries to break the clinch but Amankwah is controlling the position. Nahas fails to pull guard.
Nahas is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Amankwah is defending well. Kofi Amankwah has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rabihia Nahas. Amankwah wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Nahas breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Amankwah fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Amankwah doesn't succeed with the takedown and Nahas counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Amankwah is breathing heavily. Amankwah is looking to escape. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Rabihia Nahas dominated that round. That's time! Amankwah's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Amankwah shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Nahas but Nahas pushes him off and we're back to square one. A punch combination from Amankwah misses. Nahas fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Amankwah uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Nahas.
Nahas pushes Amankwah up against the cage in a clinch. Amankwah trying to control the position but instead, Nahas has worked for underhooks and has pushed Amankwah into the cage. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Nahas successfully pulls guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Amankwah won't allow Nahas to sweep him here. Nahas is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. Nahas is trying to keep Amankwah in close.
Amankwah wants to control from the top but Nahas keeps moving. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Amankwah is really struggling to control Nahas but he's trying to hold on to the position. Nahas is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. We've been informed that Nahas has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Amankwah is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Amankwah trying to control but Nahas is working from the bottom.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Amankwah stuffs the takedown. Nice takedown defense from Nahas. No joy for Amankwah on that attempt. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Nahas drives through with a takedown into guard. Nahas tries to free his leg and advance position but Amankwah is retaining full guard. Rabihia Nahas has got the better of the ground game so far. Amankwah wants to get back to his feet but Nahas is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Nahas decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Amankwah, up you get! Nahas shoots in for a takedown but Amankwah shows good takedown defense. Kofi Amankwah has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rabihia Nahas. Nahas gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Nahas's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Amankwah scores with a body shot.
Amankwah stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Amankwah wants it to stay on the feet. Amankwah gets the takedown into side control. Amankwah tries to stand but Nahas is controlling his head. Amankwah tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Amankwah has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Amankwah slows the pace down. Nahas wants to control but Amankwah postures up. Nahas tries to improve position but can't. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Amankwah is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Nahas looks calm but he's in trouble here. Amankwah gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Nahas is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Amankwah lets go of the hold and Nahas can pop his arm back in it's socket.
