Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Achilles Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Carolus Rex (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 6 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Achilles Jones! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Carolus Rex! The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Timothy Bukovac and .
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rex uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Jones.
Rex takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
A cross from Jones lands. Rex fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Rex throws a body punch but Jones moves out of range. Rex shoots for a takedown but Jones saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Jones takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Rex dives in and grabs Jones's left leg, looking for a takedown. Jones pushes down on Rex's head and hops out. Nice takedown defense from Jones. No joy for Rex on that attempt. Achilles Jones has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Carolus Rex. The fight stays on the outside here - Jones looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Rex listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Rex waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Jones. Rex lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin. Rex throws a jab but it's blocked by Jones.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jones throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Rex throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Jones closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so. Jones gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Rex trying to control but Jones is working from the bottom. Rex in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Rex trying to control the position from guard on top but Jones is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Jones closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. I was talking to Jones's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight. The referee calls for Rex to work.
Rex is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath. Jones lands with a short shot to the head.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rex looking to slow down the pace here. Jones scores with a shoulder strike. Jones holding his opponent close, against the cage.
Rex pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Rex shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Jones but Jones pushes him off and we're back to square one. Jones is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Rex. Jones lands a glancing blow to the side of Rex's head. Rex shoots in looking for a takedown but Jones manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Rex's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Jones connects with a crisp jab. Jones misses with a wild body shot. Jones leaves Rex with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Jones uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Rex.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A swing and a miss from Rex. Rex fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Jones rushes Rex and presses him up against the cage. Rex is trying to maintain a safe position but Jones gets an underhook and turns Rex into the cage. A short right hand to the side of the head by Jones. With the fighters clinched against the cage, Jones creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut. Jones scores with a nice hook to the head. A short uppercut from Jones.
Rex is rocked! Rex has had enough of the clinch but Jones keeps him there for the moment. Jones scores with a shot to the side of Rex's head. Rex is still on wobbly legs! Can Jones finish him? A short left from Jones. A body shot lands from Jones.
Jones unloads with a big right hand that wobbles Rex! He's leaning against the cage trying to keep his feet but Jones is unloading with more strikes now! Rex drops to his knees and the referee stops the fight for a TKO!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:53 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Achilles Jones!
