Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Daniel Kerrow! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Masato Koyabashi! The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Yves DeLean and Robert Douchet.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Kerrow shoots in and drives through. Koyabashi sprawls well. Daniel Kerrow seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Kerrow looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this! Nice jab there from Koyabashi.
It looks like Daniel Kerrow has been cut. Good work by Kerrow as he checks the leg kick. Koyabashi moves in looking to clinch but Kerrow pushes him off. Koyabashi lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh. Koyabashi clinches up against the cage. Koyabashi tries to pull guard but Kerrow won't allow it.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors. A short left from Koyabashi. A short left from Koyabashi. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Koyabashi is defending well against a takedown attempt. Koyabashi wants to stall.
Kerrow is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Koyabashi is defending well. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Daniel Kerrow. That's going to take a lot out of him.
That's one minute gone in the round. Koyabashi with an attempt at a knee that misses.
Koyabashi lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage. Koyabashi is trying to force a seperation but Kerrow has the dominant position. Koyabashi with a knee to the head.
Koyabashi trying to control the position but instead, Kerrow has worked for underhooks and has pushed Koyabashi into the cage. Koyabashi tries a knee to the head but Kerrow blocks it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A head punch blocked on the inside by Kerrow. Koyabashi is trying to break the clinch but Kerrow is controlling him. Koyabashi lands an uppercut. A short right from Koyabashi. Koyabashi breaks the clinch.
Koyabashi swings away with a leg kick that misses. Kerrow looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio. A head kick misses from Koyabashi. Masato Koyabashi is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Koyabashi fails in his attempt to clinch.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kerrow misses with a takedown attempt - Koyabashi sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Koyabashi rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Kerrow moves out of range and avoids them all easily. Koyabashi misses with a wild combination.
A nice inside leg kick there by Koyabashi. That's going to slow Kerrow down. Kerrow avoids the head kick by Koyabashi.
Koyabashi drops Kerrow with a nice combination! Koyabashi dives into Kerrow's guard, looking to finish!
Kerrow is rocked! This has been an exciting period of action! Koyabashi has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Kerrow is proving hard to escape from. Oh Kerrow is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Koyabashi pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Kerrow is keeping the position for now. Koyabashi trying to stand up but can't free himself from Kerrow's guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Koyabashi postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Koyabashi wants to get up but he can't break Kerrow's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Koyabashi throws a quick head kick that knocks Kerrow silly! This fight is all over! What a finish! Koyabashi is up on the cage, taking in the applause from the crowd.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:21 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Masato Koyabashi!
