9 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Pernell Whitaker Jr! The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, Steven Brown and William Gold.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Wilson looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Whitaker Jr moves out of range of the body kick. A telegraphed right hand from Whitaker Jr misses the target. Whitaker Jr pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way. Wilson throws a leg kick which misses Whitaker Jr's front leg but catches the back leg as Whitaker Jr tries to avoid it. Wilson misses with a series of wild punches.
Wilson tries to score with a low kick but Whitaker Jr moves his leg out of the way. Wilson fails in his attempt to clinch. Whitaker Jr throws a body kick but he wasn't in range. Wilson takes a shot to the body in his stride.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Wilson thuds his shin into the meat of Whitaker Jr's side. Whitaker Jr scores with a hook to the body. That was a close round but I would say that Slade Wilson will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on Pernell Whitaker Jr's cut. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Whitaker Jr fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Wilson looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath. We've been told by Wilson's head coaches at Mary Gracies Jiu Jitsu that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight. Whitaker Jr tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Wilson was well out of range. Poor timing from Whitaker Jr. Wilson swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Wilson closes the distance and lands a one-two. Wilson throws a looping overhand right but Whitaker Jr ducks down to avoid it. Whitaker Jr looks for the body kick but Wilson saw that one coming. Wilson throws the left hand but Whitaker Jr avoids the punch easily. Whitaker Jr cracks the inside of Wilson's front leg. Wilson moves into range and connects with a jab. Wilson throws a chopping leg kick but Whitaker Jr manages to avoid taking any serious damage. Wilson scores with a jab. Whitaker Jr acknowledges it with a nod of the head. Slade Wilson is winning the standup battle so far. No luck for Whitaker Jr with that takedown attempt. Wilson blocks a jab.

This has been an exciting period of action! Wilson stuns Whitaker Jr with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range. Wilson takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

Wilson throws a hook to the side of Whitaker Jr's head but Whitaker Jr sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully. Wilson chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Whitaker Jr can pounce on him.

Wilson fakes the leg kick and cracks Whitaker Jr in the body. Wilson tries to clinch but Whitaker Jr is having none of it. Wilson misses with a right hand and Whitaker Jr counters with a nice body shot. Whitaker Jr takes a jab right on the kisser.

Slade Wilson dominated that second round. The cut man is working on Pernell Whitaker Jr's cut. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Whitaker Jr takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Pernell Whitaker Jr has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Whitaker Jr plants his feet and lands a nice head kick! Wilson fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Whitaker Jr manages to avoid it. This has been an exciting period of action! Wilson tries to clinch there but Whitaker Jr circles away.

Wilson throws a lazy right hand but Whitaker Jr sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Whitaker Jr does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy. Whitaker Jr has developed a nice purple lump on his ribcage, as a result of some heavy body kicks from Wilson. Wilson slips under a jab from Whitaker Jr. Wilson throws a shot from downtown. Whitaker Jr moves away and avoids it. Wilson listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut. Wilson tries to clinch up.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Wilson connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Whitaker Jr's hands. Wilson blocks the body kick.
Slade Wilson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Wilson swinging wildly here.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Wilson throws a leg kick and Whitaker Jr counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Whitaker Jr trying to mount his opponent but Wilson defends it. Whitaker Jr wants to work for an arm triangle but Wilson is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Whitaker Jr looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Wilson with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Wilson blocking the ground and pound attempt from Whitaker Jr. Whitaker Jr moves into full mount! Wilson won't be happy about that! Whitaker Jr has hold of Wilson's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Wilson manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
And that's the end of the fight! Slade Wilson showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Wilson, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
