Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Brian Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Austin Barnett (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Brian Johnson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Austin Barnett! The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Emerson Jorge and Felipe Paraventi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Johnson fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Johnson feints and as Barnett raises his hands in defense, Johnson changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Barnett is trying to control the position but Johnson postures up. Johnson wants to control from the top but Barnett keeps moving. Johnson postures up.
Johnson avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Johnson trying to control the position from guard on top but Barnett is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Johnson is stalling in the full guard. Barnett manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Johnson manages to get himself to full guard.
Barnett must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Johnson looking to control but Barnett passes into half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Johnson tries to get to full guard but Barnett has control of the leg. Barnett controlling the pace. Barnett is just content to waste time from the top position. Johnson takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard. Barnett wants to stand but Johnson has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Barnett stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Johnson swivels though and keeps the full guard. Johnson throws some shots to the body, keeping his opponent honest.
Johnson has momentary wrist control but Barnett slips an elbow through the middle. Johnson can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Barnett controls the pace. Johnson wants to sweep here but Barnett controlling him for the moment.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Barnett postures up in Johnson's guard and throws a big left but Johnson blocks it. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Barnett trying to control the position from guard on top but Johnson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Johnson pulls Barnett in to control the position. Barnett wants to pass the guard but Johnson is keeping the position. Johnson bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Barnett's guard. Barnett is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Johnson trying to control but Barnett is working from the bottom. Barnett throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Johnson pushing down on Barnett's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Johnson landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. Barnett wants to control but Johnson is keeping busy.
Barnett is looking for a sweep. Johnson is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Barnett looks gassed! Johnson scoring with strikes to the body and head. Johnson is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Barnett! Barnett is in a horrible position here. Johnson smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Barnett tries to get back to half guard but can't. Johnson breaks from Barnett's wrist control and lands an elbow.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Johnson takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Johnson wants to finish this one by submission but Barnett is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Johnson. Barnett throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing. Johnson pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage. Johnson controlling the position easily from mount. Johnson breaks from Barnett's wrist control and lands an elbow. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Brian Johnson dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Johnson looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Johnson sitting in guard, not really doing much. Barnett trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage. Barnett is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Johnson forces his way into half guard. Johnson trying to control the action but Barnett is working from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Johnson is figuring out what he wants to do next. Barnett is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Johnson pulls his head out easily. Johnson keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. Barnett tries to get to full guard but Johnson has control of the leg. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Johnson moves nicely into side control. Barnett is breathing heavily. Barnett struggling a bit here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
The referee stands the fighters back up. Brian Johnson just wasn't active enough from the dominant position. Barnett gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Johnson working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Barnett's head. Johnson sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Barnett's guard. Johnson keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. Johnson seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Barnett for as long as he can get away with.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Barnett moves into full guard.
Brian Johnson overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Johnson stopping the sweep attempt from Barnett. That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Johnson wants to control from the top but Barnett keeps moving. Johnson postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Johnson preventing the sweep.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Johnson swats away the attempt to clinch by Barnett. Barnett tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Johnson paws at him with a jab and circles away. Barnett closes this distance looking for a takedown but Johnson circles away. Brian Johnson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Johnson drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Johnson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Barnett swivels though and keeps the full guard. Johnson is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Brian Johnson dominated that second round. That's time! Johnson's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!
Johnson drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Johnson lands a few punches from side control. You can see the frustration on Barnett's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Barnett is not content to let Johnson control the position. Johnson tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Barnett sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard. Both fighters are breathing heavily. Johnson wants to take a breather but Barnett is having none of it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Johnson keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Johnson prevents Barnett from improving his position. Johnson is keen to just control but Barnett is a slippery customer. Barnett is trying to get back to full guard. Johnson is taking a breather. Barnett says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. Barnett is looking to improve his position.
Barnett tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Johnson doesn't succeed with the takedown and Barnett counters with a left to the body. Barnett swings away with a leg kick that misses.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Barnett misses with a series of wild punches.
Johnson bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Johnson fails to land a wild elbow strike.
Barnett tries to bench press Johnson off him but Johnson keeps the position. Barnett wants to get back to his feet. Johnson tries to advance to mount but can't. Barnett is trying to get back to half guard. Johnson wants to control but Barnett is keeping him busy. Johnson lands some shots froms side control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Johnson tries for a kimura but Barnett is defending well. Johnson wants to control but Barnett is keeping him busy.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Johnson with a lazy takedown attempt and Barnett counters with a nice double leg into side control. Johnson won't be happy with that. Barnett tries to move to mount but Johnson blocks the move with his legs. Johnson is looking to regain half guard here but Barnett keeps moving and retains side control. Barnett is putting a hurting on Johnson here, landing some big shots from side control. Johnson is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Johnson manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Johnson looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Barnett works his way to full guard. Good work. Austin Barnett has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Johnson won't allow Barnett to sweep him here. Johnson controls from within his opponent's guard. Johnson passes easily into side control. Nice work. Barnett is looking for a sweep. Johnson is trying to move to mount but Barnett reverses beautifully and ends up in Johnson's guard. Barnett throws a big right hand that misses.
And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Brian Johnson. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Johnson, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent.
