PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Lamar Yates (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gago Peste (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Peste is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by 50 CENT. Peste has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Gago Peste will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Lamar Yates!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Gago Peste!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, Andrew Berry and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Peste darts in and clinches Yates up against the cage.

Yates escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Some wild striking there from Peste.
A head kick by Peste misses

and Yates counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Yates throwing shots but Peste is blocking nicely.
Peste wants to improve his position but Yates is controlling well.
Yates throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Yates not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

Peste is defending against the submission attempts here by Yates.
Yates thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Peste's head.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Yates throwing shots but Peste is blocking nicely.

Yates working over Peste with some ground and pound. Peste looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Peste is looking to control Yates's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Peste avoid being mounted?

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Yates looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Peste throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Yates tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Peste is in Yates's guard.
Peste looks winded!

Peste drops back looking for a leg! Yates is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Yates manages to kick Peste off! Peste jumps back into Yates's guard.
Peste pushes down on Yates's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Yates looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Peste not doing much here.
Yates keeping control of the position.
Peste is trying to control the action in half guard but Yates is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Yates wants to improve his position but Peste is controlling well.
Yates has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Peste blocks the strikes from Yates.

Peste stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Yates to get to his feet.

Peste fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Yates to the ground. Peste is now in Yates's guard.

Peste sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Yates's guard.
Peste is thwarting Yates's attempts to control the position.
Peste is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Yates reverses the position - he's now on top in Peste's guard.

A close round but Gago Peste will probably get the nod.

Yates is nestled in close to Peste, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

Horrible takedown attempt by Yates or perhaps it was just good defense by Peste, which made it look bad.

Peste fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Yates is out of range.

Peste throws a right and a left that Yates avoids nicely.
Peste scores with a head kick. Yates tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.
Yates drops his hands momentarily and Peste takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.

Peste misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Oh Yates is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Peste closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Yates.
Yates gets through Peste's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Yates has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Yates seems to have got his legs back now.
Yates tries to break free but Peste pushes him back against the cage.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Peste.
Peste takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Yates swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Peste keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Yates's efforts to push away.
Peste working some nice short punches in the clinch.
Yates wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Yates has had enough of the clinch but Peste keeps him there for the moment.
Peste is trying to break the clinch but Yates has him pressed against the cage.

It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Yates here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.
Yates slips a jab and a cross from Peste.

Peste closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Yates's guard.
Yates wants to sweep but no luck.

Yates wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Peste is fighting to break Yates's control of his arms but Yates is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Yates lands a couple of shots from the bottom.
Peste postures up.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Peste shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Yates is trying to defend but Peste finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Yates gets back to full guard.
Peste works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Peste is looking to advance position but Yates won't allow it.

Peste is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Yates is just riding it out for now. Peste eventually gives up the hold.
