PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Oscar Rivas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jean Caisse (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rivas comes into the arena with Cypress Hill-Insane in the Membrane blaring out of the sound system. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Oscar Rivas! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jean Caisse! The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Alec Ball and Gregory Folan.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rivas lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent. Rivas fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Caisse is out of range. The fighters circle momentarily. Rivas darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch. Rivas misses with a low kick. Rivas checks a low kick from Caisse. Rivas throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Caisse. Rivas moves in looking to clinch but Caisse pushes him off. Rivas stalks Caisse and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Caisse's face. Caisse staggers backwards, shaken. Caisse lands a jab. Caisse has closed the distance and engaged Rivas in a clinch.
Caisse tries to pull guard but Rivas won't allow it.
Caisse jumps guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Rivas postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Rivas looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Rivas wants to control from the top but Caisse keeps moving.
That's one minute gone in the round. Caisse avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Rivas looking to pass the guard. Rivas wants to stand but Caisse has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Rivas chips away with some ground and pound. Rivas lands a couple of digs. Rivas postures up in Caisse's guard and throws a big left but Caisse blocks it. Rivas drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Rivas jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Caisse is on top in guard.
Caisse is looking to work some ground and pound but Rivas has wrist control. Rivas has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Caisse won't allow Rivas to get back to his feet. Rivas preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Caisse passes into half guard. Caisse throwing shots but Rivas is blocking nicely. Rivas wants to get back to his feet. Caisse is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Rivas doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Caisse. In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Caisse working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though. Rivas blocking the ground and pound attempt from Caisse.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Caisse tries to pass to full mount but Rivas defends it. We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace. Rivas moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Rivas working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Caisse. Caisse avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Caisse trying to control but Rivas is working from the bottom.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Rivas is trying to keep Caisse in close.
Caisse stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rivas swivels though and keeps the full guard. Rivas managing to control the position.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Caisse feints and as Rivas raises his hands in defense, Caisse changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Caisse trying to control but Rivas is working from the bottom. Caisse throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Rivas works some decent striking defense from the bottom. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Jean Caisse will probably get the nod. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!
Rivas misses with a double jab.
Caisse throws a right and a left that both miss. Caisse fails in his attempt to clinch. Rivas tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Caisse moves away from the strike by Rivas. Caisse avoids the head kick by Rivas.
Caisse tries to close the distance and clinch but Rivas swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Rivas lands a leg kick that knocks Caisse off balance momentarily. Caisse misses with the combination.
Caisse scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
It looks like Oscar Rivas has been cut. Caisse shoots in for a takedown and gets it. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Caisse seems to be looking for submissions.
Caisse looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
That's one minute gone in the round. Caisse throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Rivas looks like he's trying to stand up.

That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Caisse is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Rivas has managed to free his arm - good work. Rivas is trying to stand up here but Caisse is controlling him well. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. Caisse is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Rivas doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Caisse. Caisse missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Caisse trying to control from half guard but Rivas is working away.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rivas misses with a few strikes there.
Rivas tries to close the distance and clinch up but Caisse swats him away and circles back towards the center. Rivas misses with a wild combination.
Rivas feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Caisse's calf. Rivas dives in and grabs Caisse's left leg, looking for a takedown. Caisse pushes down on Rivas's head and hops out. Rivas tests Caisse's chin there with a solid looking shot. Caisse drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Caisse thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Caisse is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Rivas is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Rivas is looking to reverse the position. You can see the frustration on Rivas's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Rivas wants to get back to his feet. Rivas manages to work his way to half guard, despite Caisse's best efforts. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Caisse working the head and body with strikes. Rivas is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Caisse's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Caisse's back! The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Rivas patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here? And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jean Caisse showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The cut man is working on Oscar Rivas's cut. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!
Caisse scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business. Oscar Rivas is winning the standup battle so far. The fight stays on the outside here - Rivas looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Caisse looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Rivas! Caisse advances nicely into full mount. Rivas throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing. Caisse landing strikes, looking to finish! Caisse is landing with some decent strikes but Rivas is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue. Rivas trying desperately to get to his feet.
Rivas is squirming around, avoiding Caisse's attempts to control the action. Caisse lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.

That's one minute gone in the round. Caisse lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Rivas hang on? Rivas is working to get back to half guard.
Rivas is working hard here to advance position. Caisse looking to finish here with some ground and pound. He lands one big shot that has Rivas covering up... and two more big strikes land, forcing the referee to step in and put and end to proceedings! This fight is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:43 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Jean Caisse! A very excited looking Jean Caisse rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
