PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Marcos Duarte (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dominic Toretto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Duarte's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Go 2 Sleep by Ludacris. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 23 - 14 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Marcos Duarte!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 26 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dominic Toretto!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Aafke Stam and Patrick Alders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Duarte stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Duarte wants it to stay on the feet.

and Toretto counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Toretto in particular looking to stall.
The fighters are battling for position here. Duarte manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Toretto closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Toretto thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Toretto is looking to stall here but Duarte recovers full guard.

Duarte has his foot on Toretto's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Toretto works his way back into a safe position though.

Toretto trying to control but Duarte is working from the bottom.
Toretto trying to stand up but can't free himself from Duarte's guard.
Toretto advances to half guard.
Toretto wants to lay and pray for a moment but Duarte keeps working.
Duarte wants to improve his position but Toretto is controlling well.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Toretto is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Toretto prevents Duarte from improving his position.
Toretto tries to pass to full mount but Duarte defends it.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Toretto throwing shots but Duarte is blocking nicely.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Toretto is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Duarte misses with a looping right.
Duarte shoots in for a double leg but Toretto sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Toretto has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Duarte lands with an uppercut that bounces Toretto off the ropes and back into range.
Toretto closes the distance and clinches up with Duarte, looking for a takedown. Toretto pushes Duarte against the ropes but Duarte circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Toretto gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Duarte to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Duarte stands and throws Toretto's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Toretto struggling a bit here.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Toretto parries the strikes from Duarte easily there. Duarte is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Toretto to escape.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Marcos Duarte dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Duarte moves out of range as Toretto throws a body kick.
Toretto tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Duarte defends well and Toretto ends up having to push Duarte into the ropes where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Duarte jumps guard but Toretto stands there with Duarte around his waist. Duarte gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Duarte throws a head punch that misses.
Duarte is looking to take this one to the mat.

Toretto breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Duarte looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.

Duarte fails with an attempt to clinch.

Duarte shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Duarte showed some decent athleticism there.
Duarte stops Toretto from getting back to his feet.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Duarte lands a nice short elbow.
Duarte not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Marcos Duarte overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Duarte tries to pass to full mount but Toretto defends it.
Duarte not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Duarte is looking to take a break and control but Toretto is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Duarte wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Toretto, who protects the arm well.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Duarte looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Duarte lands a nice forearm strike.
Duarte lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Duarte avoids the strikes from the bottom by Toretto.
Duarte wants to lay and pray for a moment but Toretto keeps working.

Toretto is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
You can see the frustration on Toretto's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Duarte tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Duarte has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Duarte postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Duarte wants to control but Toretto is keeping him busy.

Toretto has hold of Duarte's hands but Duarte slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Duarte tries to pass the half guard into mount. Toretto knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Toretto looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Toretto gets back to full guard.
Duarte in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Duarte drops back, looking for a kneebar! Toretto looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Toretto looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Toretto!

Duarte is trying to control Toretto's posture but Toretto avoids it.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Marcos Duarte.
Well Duarte has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
