The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Micheangelo Fripello and Josh West.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A slapping leg kick lands for Stewart.
Garrick Stewart seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Stewart throws a right hand that misses
and Mercado counters with a lovely straight right hand!
That kick from Stewart tenderised Mercado's leg. Mercado is trying to keep his angry face on.
Stewart digs a good body shot into Mercado's ribs.
Mercado takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.

Stewart moves into range and lands a nice body kick.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Stewart lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Mercado has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Mercado and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Stewart lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Stewart.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Stewart connects with a nice short shot to Mercado's temple.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Stewart takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Stewart's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Mercado really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Mercado is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.
