PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Derek Patterson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jan Standell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Patterson comes to the cage accompanied by Hold on : by Tim Waits. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Derek Patterson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jan Standell!
The judges for this bout are Nard Betker, Patrick Alders and Albert Achterberg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Patterson showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Standell.
Sloppy strikes from Standell. Those never looked like landing.
Patterson slaps away a takedown attempt from Standell, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Patterson postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Standell really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Patterson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Patterson lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
Standell is pushing Patterson's head away, looking to escape. Patterson manages to hold on to the position though.

Standell tries to improve position but can't.
A lull in the action here.

Patterson wants to lay and pray for a moment but Standell keeps working.
Standell tries to buck Patterson off but Patterson is having none of it.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Standell tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Patterson swivels and escapes.

Patterson postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Patterson is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.


Standell is rocked!
Patterson loads up on a big left hand. Standell felt that one! He's just covering up now, not defending himself intelligently - Patterson looks towards the ref and unloads with 3 more big shots and the ref has no choice but to stop the fight! Standell can't hide his disappointment, as Patterson celebrates the victory.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:38 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Derek Patterson!
Our winner, Derek Patterson, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
