PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mark Lewis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gunnar Nelson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Gunnar Nelson was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mark Lewis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Gunnar Nelson!
The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Alexandre Firmino and Paulo Santos.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lewis looks to throw the jab but Nelson is out of range.
Nelson moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross.
A jab from Lewis misses.
Nelson keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Lewis.
Lewis throws a shot from downtown. Nelson moves away and avoids it.
Nelson has his takedown stuffed
and Lewis counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Nelson tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Lewis counters with a three punch combo that has Nelson backing up. Nelson nods at Lewis to acknowledge the strikes.
Lewis throws a body punch but Nelson moves out of range.
Nelson tries a head kick but it misses.
Nelson tries to score a power double leg takedown but Lewis sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Nelson somewhat.

Mark Lewis has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gunnar Nelson.
Lewis avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Lewis throws a body punch but Nelson moves out of range.

Lewis drops Nelson with a nice combination! Lewis dives into Nelson's guard, looking to finish!


Nelson is rocked!


It looks like Gunnar Nelson has been cut.
Nelson is trying to keep Lewis in close.

Lewis avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Nelson is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Lewis is aware though and is defending well.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Nelson manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Lewis manages to get himself to full guard.

Lewis wants to get back to his feet but Nelson is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Nelson wants to control from the top but Lewis keeps moving.
Nelson is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Lewis on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Lewis tries to get out of the position.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Nelson pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Lewis is keeping the position for now.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Lewis bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Nelson's head backwards.

Lewis lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Nelson misses with a takedown
and Lewis counters with a nice uppercut.

Lewis seems to be moving with more speed, compared to his last bout. He must have been working on that in the gym.

Nelson tries to move into range but Lewis moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Nelson is still on wobbly legs! Can Lewis finish him?
Lewis ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Nelson moves away.
Nelson seems to have recovered his senses.

Lewis misses with a series of wild punches.

A jab-cross combination lands for Lewis and sends Nelson crashing to the mat! Lewis follows him down to the mat - Nelson regains half guard but he's not out of trouble yet!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Still in half guard, Lewis seems content to control.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Nelson comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

Nelson is trying desperately to land a takedown but Lewis is having absolutely none of it. This is turning into a bit of a nightmare for Nelson.

Nelson throws a solid leg kick but Lewis takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Nelson.

Nelson closes the distance but Lewis moves to the side
and Lewis counters with a nice uppercut.
Nelson shoots in looking for a takedown but Lewis manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Nelson's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Nelson slips a jab and a cross from Lewis.
Lewis throws a one two combo.
A big left from Lewis misses.
A looping hook to the body misses from Lewis. Nelson does a little dance to reset his feet.
Lewis scores with a crisp jab that stopped Nelson in his tracks.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Nelson looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Lewis is defending well. Nelson quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Lewis has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Nelson celebrates on the ropes, with the crowd.
