Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Peter Overeem! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Shane Callahan! The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Paulo Santos and Seu Braga.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Overeem shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Overeem with a momentary lay and pray from half guard. Callahan wants to improve his position but Overeem is controlling well.
Overeem performing his best blanket impression for a moment. Callahan has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Overeem is working away from the top position though. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Callahan is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Overeem is staying active.
That's one minute gone in the round. Callahan wants to improve his position but Overeem is controlling well.
Overeem slows the pace down in half guard. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Callahan tries to roll over but Overeem keeps him under control. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Overeem content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Overeem looks to land a right hand but Callahan moved out of range.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Overeem looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Overeem stalling. Callahan is looking to get back to full guard here but Overeem has managed to pass to side control instead. Callahan is looking to reverse the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Callahan is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Overeem content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though. Overeem passes to full mount! That's big trouble for Callahan! Callahan defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Overeem. Overeem controlling the position easily from mount. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Overeem avoids the attempt from Callahan to control. Callahan is just holding on here. Overeem manages to take his back.
Overeem gets his hands free as Callahan looks to control. Overeem has good solid back control here. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Callahan wants to control his opponent's hands but Overeem gets his hands free. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Peter Overeem dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Overeem looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. Overeem trying to pass the guard but Callahan defending well. Callahan is looking for a sweep. Overeem is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Callahan is looking to control Overeem's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Callahan avoid being mounted? Callahan keeping hold of Overeem's head, controlling as best he can. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Overeem sitting and controlling from the half guard. Callahan is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
That's one minute gone in the round. Callahan makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Callahan. Overeem engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. Callahan trying to keep a closed guard but Overeem is proving a slippery customer.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Overeem shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Overeem controlling the pace. Callahan is looking to improve his position.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Callahan is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Overeem is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Overeem is thwarting Callahan's attempts to control the position. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Overeem frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Overeem controlling the pace for now.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Callahan sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though. Callahan is holding on to half guard well. Peter Overeem overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Callahan trying to control from the bottom.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Still in half guard, Overeem seems content to control. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Peter Overeem dominated that second round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! And we move into the final round!
Callahan throws the left hand but Overeem avoids the punch easily. Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Callahan. Callahan gets caught flat footed, as Overeem shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Callahan is trying to keep Overeem in close.
Callahan is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Overeem drops back looking for a leg! Callahan is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Callahan manages to kick Overeem off! Overeem jumps back into Callahan's guard. Overeem might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Callahan wants to sweep here but Overeem controlling him for the moment.
That's one minute gone in the round. Overeem looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Callahan working a defensive guard here.
Overeem controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. Overeem throws a right hand that misses
and Overeem takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Overeem throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Callahan fakes a jab and scores with a low kick. Callahan connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt. That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Overeem crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Callahan - the referee stops the clock and Overeem gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Callahan. Overeem manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes. Callahan avoids a lazy jab quite easily. Overeem decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Overeem takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Overeem tries to pass the half guard into mount. Callahan knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Overeem stalling.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Overeem is working for a submission of some sort.
Callahan tries to roll over but Overeem keeps him under control.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Overeem walks into a left hand. A combination from Overeem does no damage. Callahan feints and then cracks Overeem's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Overeem down. A big right from Overeem misses. Overeem drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles. Callahan uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Overeem. Overeem misses with a double jab.
Overeem dives in and scores a takedown into Callahan's guard. Both fighters are breathing heavily. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Callahan is trying to keep Overeem in close.
Callahan tries to land a sweep but no joy.
And that's the end of the fight! Peter Overeem showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Overeem, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
