The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thompson swinging wildly here.
Eddy Thompson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Gracie rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Thompson moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Gracie fails with the takedown.
Thompson feints a jab promting Gracie to slip. Thompson then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Gracie slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.

It looks like Jose Gracie has been cut.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Thompson has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Gracie wants to get back to his feet.
Gracie manages to work his way to half guard, despite Thompson's best efforts.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gracie kicks Thompson off and gets back to his feet.

Thompson shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Gracie manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Gracie controls Thompson momentarily but Thompson frees himself.
Thompson must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Gracie lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Gracie throws a big elbow that misses.
Gracie not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Gracie stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Thompson swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Gracie is in close to Thompson's body, working some short punches and elbows.

Thompson wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Gracie manages to pass to side control.
Thompson tries to kick Gracie off but Gracie keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gracie is trying to control. Thompson wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Gracie wants to take a breather but Thompson is having none of it.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Thompson shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Gracie has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Gracie regains full guard. Nicely done.
Thompson really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gracie. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Thompson has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Gracie to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Thompson is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Gracie pulls down on the head and he's put Thompson to sleep! This one is all over!
