PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Chocolate Al (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Osmo Kein�nen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Chocolate Al!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 10 - 1, fighting out of New York, Osmo Kein�nen!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, John Kavanagh and Bruno Lombardi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Al lands a lovely overhand right.
Al tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Kein�nen manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Al thows a leg kick but Kein�nen checks it

and Kein�nen counters with a shoot takedown. Al fights it but they end up in guard.
Kein�nen trying to control the position from guard on top but Al is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Al wants to stand but Kein�nen is controlling the position.
Kein�nen loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Al is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Kein�nen is pushing down on Al's leg trying to pass to half guard. Al is fighting to maintain full guard but Kein�nen has managed to sneak the leg through.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kein�nen is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.
Al gets full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Al has Kein�nen pulled in close to control his posture.
Kein�nen trying to control the position from guard on top but Al is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Kein�nen stopping the sweep attempt from Al.
Kein�nen trying to control but Al is working from the bottom.
Kein�nen won't allow Al to sweep him here.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Kein�nen rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Al makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
The fighters circle momentarily. Kein�nen darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.

Kein�nen shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Kein�nen was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Kein�nen wants to control but Al is keeping him busy.
Kein�nen scoring with punches from side control.
Kein�nen sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Al is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Al can't do much from the bottom here.
Kein�nen tries to move to mount but Al blocks the move with his legs.
Al is not content to let Kein�nen control the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Al is looking to reverse the position.
Kein�nen trying to control the position but Al is working away.
An elbow from Kein�nen crashes against the mat.
Al is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Kein�nen has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Kein�nen lands a decent elbow from side control.
Al is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Kein�nen off and has taken his back!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Al is hanging on to Kein�nen's back as he tries to escape.
Al controls the position.
Al has the hooks in. Kein�nen is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Al is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish.

Al decides to stand up, even though he's got his opponent's back.
Al keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Kein�nen misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Al.
Al scores with a leg kick.
Al lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Kein�nen throws out a powerful jab.
And that�s the end of the round � the fighters go back to their corners.

Osmo Kein�nen dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Al stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Chocolate Al seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Al throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Al throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Kein�nen connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Al connects with an inside leg kick.
Kein�nen thumps Al with a low kick.
A looping hook to the body misses from Al. Kein�nen does a little dance to reset his feet.
Chocolate Al is winning the standup battle so far.
Al fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Kein�nen looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Al fails in his attempt to clinch.
Kein�nen throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Al takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Kein�nen keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Al.
Al cracks the inside of Kein�nen's front leg.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Al throws a leg kick but Kein�nen checks it.
Kein�nen throws a right and a left that both miss.
Kein�nen connects with a jab.
Al lands a nice shot to the body.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kein�nen avoids a kick to the body.
Kein�nen looks for a takedown but Al sprawls well.
Al throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Kein�nen misses with a looping left.
Kein�nen misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Al.
Al scores with the left hand. Kein�nen knows he should have avoided that one.
A chopping leg kick lands by Al.
Nice defenses there by Al.
Al connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Kein�nen keeps Al at a distance using the push kick.
Al tries to close the distance and clinch but Kein�nen swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Kein�nen.
Kein�nen misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Al.

Kein�nen slips under a jab.
Al connects with a body shot that sends Kein�nen's belly button to the back.
Chocolate Al is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Kein�nen fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Al has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Al has Kein�nen up against the cage in a clinch.
Al misses with a hook to the ribs.
Al lands with a left to the head.
Al is pressed up against the cage. Kein�nen has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Al down to the mat. Al avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Chocolate Al has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Osmo Kein�nen.
Kein�nen has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Al finds it's way round the side to connect with Kein�nen's head.
Kein�nen throws out a loose jab but Al uses good head movement to avoid it.

Kein�nen throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Al slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Kein�nen scores with a punch to the head.
Al checks a leg kick.
Kein�nen misses with a straight right.

Al throws a body shot but no joy.
Al throws a head kick but Kein�nen moves out of range.

Kein�nen throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Al tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Kein�nen is in Al's guard.
Al has control of Kein�nen's left arm, preventing Kein�nen from doing any damage.
Al is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Al is pulling down on Kein�nen's head. It's preventing any offense from Kein�nen, at least for the moment.
Al is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Kein�nen looking to sit in guard and control but Al gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

We've been hearing good reports from Al's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Al gets to his feet. Kein�nen looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Al takes a swing at Kein�nen's ribcage but misses.
Al connects with a single shot there.
Al misses with an uppercut.
Al rushes in with a sloppy looking punch

and Kein�nen counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Al!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Al keeps Kein�nen under control for a moment.
Al is looking for a sweep.
Kein�nen wants to lay and pray for a moment but Al keeps working.
And that�s the end of the round � the fighters go back to their corners.

Chocolate Al dominated that second round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


Al throws a leg kick but Kein�nen moved away.
Kein�nen takes one to the chin there.
Al lands a nice hook to Kein�nen's body. Kein�nen takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Kein�nen takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Al swings and misses with a hook to the body.
A low kick from Al is predictable there

and Kein�nen counters with a takedown into side control.
Kein�nen throwing strikes but missing, from side control.
Al parries the strikes from Kein�nen easily there. Kein�nen is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Al to escape.
Kein�nen is chipping away with strikes.

Kein�nen swings around for an armbar but Al sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Kein�nen's guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Kein�nen has his foot on Al's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Al works his way back into a safe position though.
Al has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Kein�nen is proving hard to escape from.

Al decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Al misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Al throws a leg kick that misses.
Al looks to land a right hand but Kein�nen moved out of range.
Kein�nen misses with a low kick as Al jumps back.
Al throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Al tests Kein�nen's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Kein�nen throws a shot to the body.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Al throws a body shot but no joy.
Al takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Al throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Kein�nen wants to land a leg kick but Al is out of range.
A telegraphed right hand from Kein�nen misses the target.
Al chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Al doesn't manage to clinch there - Kein�nen circles away.
Kein�nen throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Al steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Kein�nen.
Al misses with a series of wild punches.
Al moves out of range of the strikes.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Kein�nen moves out of range of the body kick.
Kein�nen lands with an uppercut that bounces Al off the cage and back into range.
Kein�nen gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Al.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Al throws an off balance right hand

and Kein�nen counters with a nice double leg into side control. Al won't be happy with that.
Al manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Al tries to stand and escape but Kein�nen is controlling the position.

Al stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Kein�nen to get to his feet.
Horrible takedown attempt by Kein�nen or perhaps it was just good defense by Al, which made it look bad.
Al misses with a body kick.
Al with a hook.
Al tries to clinch up but Kein�nen circles away and keeps his distance.
Kein�nen misses with a wild body shot.
Al connects with a single shot there.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Kein�nen throws a lazy right hand but Al sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Al fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Kein�nen manages to avoid it.
Kein�nen on the wrong end of a nice jab.
Al delivers a nice body kick.
Al slips under a jab from Kein�nen.
Kein�nen looks to throw a body kick
and Al finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.
Kein�nen takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Kein�nen throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Al with a jab.
Kein�nen takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Kein�nen looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Kein�nen gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Al.
Good exchange - Al coming out on top.

Al is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.

Chocolate Al showed his dominance in that final round.
