PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mikey Duffy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Artem Lapshinov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Duffy comes to the cage accompanied by Down with the Sickness. Lapshinov has chosen Moonlight Sonata as his entrance music. Artem Lapshinov has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Mikey Duffy's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mikey Duffy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Artem Lapshinov!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, George Francis and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Duffy looks to throw the jab but Lapshinov is out of range.

Duffy closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Duffy lands in his opponent's guard.
Duffy won't allow Lapshinov to sweep him here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Duffy trying to control but Lapshinov is working from the bottom.
Duffy throws a big elbow that misses.
Duffy lands a couple of digs.
Lapshinov wants to improve his position but instead Duffy has moved into half guard.
Duffy not doing much here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lapshinov wants to control but Duffy is keeping busy and won't allow it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Lapshinov tries to get to full guard but Duffy has control of the leg.

Duffy moves nicely into side control.
Duffy tries to move into full mount but can't pass Lapshinov's legs.
Duffy lands a nice forearm strike.
Duffy misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Lapshinov is trying to improve his position.
Duffy tries to move to mount but Lapshinov blocks the move with his legs.
Duffy lands a decent elbow from side control.
Duffy grinds an elbow into Lapshinov's temple.
Lapshinov is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Duffy scores with a couple of short elbows.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Duffy tries to score with some ground and pound. Lapshinov controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Duffy cracks Lapshinov with a big elbow.
Duffy trying to control the position but Lapshinov is working away.
Duffy lands some shots froms side control.
Duffy works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Duffy tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Lapshinov on the wrong end of some ground and pound.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Duffy trying to control the action but Lapshinov is working from the bottom.
Lapshinov is trying to work for a sweep but Duffy has mounted him!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Lapshinov can't escape the position.
Lapshinov taking shots to the head.
Duffy looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Duffy fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Duffy lands a nice shot to the head.
Lapshinov taking shots to the head.
The referee warns Lapshinov that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Lapshinov is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Lapshinov really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Duffy. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Duffy lands with some strikes.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Duffy postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Lapshinov looks a forlorn figure.
Duffy putting on the heat here with some good ground and pound!


Lapshinov is rocked!
Duffy trying to control but Lapshinov is having none of it.
Duffy raining down hammerfists from mount.

Duffy landing punches.
Lapshinov takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Duffy in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Duffy landing strikes from the mount and Lapshinov is in trouble!
Duffy has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Lapshinov's face.
Lapshinov is still in real trouble! Can Duffy finish him?
Duffy unloads with some vicious shots from mount and Lapshinov wants out - he looks towards the referee who steps in to save him! Duffy celebrates on the cage and the crowd goes wild!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:50 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Mikey Duffy!
Mikey Duffy decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
