PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Robinson Crusoe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Project Fighter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fighter comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Mr. Crowley kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Robinson Crusoe had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Robinson Crusoe!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Project Fighter!
The judges for this bout are Wesley Smith, Daniel Franklin and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No joy there for Fighter, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Fighter loads up on a big right hand but Crusoe slips the punch.
Crusoe appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Crusoe keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Fighter.
Crusoe attempts a counter takedown but Fighter avoids it well and moves away.
Fighter misses with the combination.

Fighter throws a jab when Crusoe was well out of range.

Fighter swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Crusoe counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Crusoe advances position into side control!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Fighter is trying to escape the position but Crusoe is controlling the position.

Crusoe seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Fighter for as long as he can get away with.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Crusoe is taking a breather. Fighter says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Crusoe wants to take a breather but Fighter is having none of it.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

and Crusoe counters with a shoot takedown. Fighter fights it but they end up in guard.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Project Fighter will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Fighter sizes up Crusoe with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
The crowd cheers as Fighter lands an impressive looking overhand right. Crusoe doesn't seem phased though.
Crusoe avoids a punch combination nicely.
Crusoe changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Fighter bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Crusoe's head backwards.

so Crusoe counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
We've been hearing that Crusoe has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
Fighter looking to hit a scissor sweep but Crusoe is one step ahead there.

Fighter is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Robinson Crusoe overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Fighter has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Crusoe can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Fighter tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Fighter has his foot on Crusoe's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Crusoe works his way back into a safe position though.

Crusoe has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Fighter is looking for a triangle but Crusoe pushes his legs off easily.
Fighter can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Crusoe controls the pace.
Crusoe stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Fighter swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Crusoe stays in close to Fighter's body and controls the position.
This is a sustained period of stalling by Crusoe.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Project Fighter seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Crusoe walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Fighter lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Crusoe circles away quickly and effectively.
Crusoe attempts a counter takedown but Fighter avoids it well and moves away.
Project Fighter is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Fighter might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.

Fighter feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Crusoes jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Crusoe uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Fighter.

Project Fighter is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Fighter lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Fighter throws a shot from downtown. Crusoe moves away and avoids it.

Fighter shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Crusoe eats them both and turns towards Fighter to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Project Fighter seems to be getting the better of the standup.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

so Crusoe counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Crusoe controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Crusoe continues to stall.
Both fighters have adopted an aggressive gameplan on the ground!

Crusoe slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Project Fighter showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!

Fighter throws a jab but it's blocked by Crusoe.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Crusoe perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Fighter tries to reverse the position but Crusoe maintains control.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Robinson Crusoe.
I think Fighter has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
