PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Doug Durham (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Van Buren (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Van Buren has chosen Till I Collapse as his entrance music. David Van Buren will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Doug Durham!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, David Van Buren!
The judges for this bout are Radbod Blank, Paul Aken and Wagner Zegers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Van Buren throws a sloppy head kick

and Durham holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Van Buren breaks from the clinch.
Van Buren lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Van Buren throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Durham's head.
Durham misses with a hook.
Durham shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Van Buren will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Van Buren gets in close and instigates a clinch.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Van Buren is trying to force a seperation but Durham has the dominant position.
Durham keeps control of Van Buren as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.

Van Buren is trying to trip Durham. He has hold of a leg but Durham is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Van Buren persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

Durham is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Van Buren is controlling him.
Van Buren controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Van Buren throws a big right hand that misses.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Durham throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Van Buren lands a body shot.
Van Buren throws a head kick but Durham moves out of range.
Durham uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Van Buren.
Van Buren pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Durham shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Van Buren's guard.
Durham is in close to Van Buren's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Durham working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Van Buren is on top in guard.

Van Buren lands a couple of decent looking shots.

Durham really is a fat lump.
Van Buren stops Durham from standing up.
Durham might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Durham enables Van Buren to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Durham manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

David Van Buren dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Van Buren misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Van Buren tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Van Buren lands with a slapping head kick.


It looks like Doug Durham has been cut.
Durham shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Van Buren but Van Buren pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Durham, as that shot connected.
Van Buren swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Durham.
Van Buren tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Durham was well out of range. Poor timing from Van Buren.
Van Buren throws a head kick that misses.
Durham looks for a takedown but Van Buren sprawls well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Van Buren throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Durham works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Durham can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Van Buren controls the pace.

Durham on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

Van Buren closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Van Buren controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Doug Durham is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Durham darts in looking for a takedown but Van Buren gets double underhooks and turns Durham into the cage.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

David Van Buren showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

That's time! Durham's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Van Buren decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Van Buren moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Durham has worked his arm free - good work by Durham!

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Durham is trying to buck Van Buren off.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Van Buren has managed to clinch.

Durham breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Durham has Van Buren pressed against the cage, preventing Van Buren from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Van Buren has had enough of the clinch but Durham keeps him there for the moment.
Durham tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Van Buren smiles and moves away.
Durham misses with the combination.

Durham shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Van Buren is trying to defend but Durham finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Durham thows a huge punch but Van Buren dodges it nicely.

Van Buren is looking to control Durham's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Van Buren avoid being mounted?
Van Buren has hold of Durham's hands but Durham slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Durham with the ground and pound but Van Buren uses the opportunity to regain guard.

Doug Durham has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
David Van Buren is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Van Buren is looking for a triangle here but Durham uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Doug Durham.
Well Van Buren has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
