The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Messina shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Stephens as he jumps to the side.
The fight stays on the outside here - Stephens looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Messina goes for a double leg but Stephens avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Stephens continues to drive forward.
Messina tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Stephens smiles and moves away.
