The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Maia feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

McPunches wants to stand and escape but Maia is having none of it.

McPunches has his feet on Maia's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.

Maia fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. McPunches sprawls well initially but Maia persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Maia lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Maia is working for a kimura but McPunches is defending it quite comfortably.

Maia lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
McPunches is squirming around, avoiding Maia's attempts to control the action.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Maia is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!
Maia shoots for a double leg takedown but McPunches sprawls well. He's pushed Maia's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

It looks like Braulio Maia has been cut.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
McPunches gets to his feet and stands over Maia, holding his ankles. He dives in with a big left hand that connects! Maia felt that one! McPunches unloads more punches and elbows and this one is over! The ref has dived in to save Maia from any more punishment!
